I said all along I had no way of knowing how the party went. I am committed to an event locally and I'm sticking to it. Unless I can find out through the teacher, I don't think I will hear how it turns out. My original question was can she do this. After talking to the birthday mom, she thinks she can. After reading all these posts, I think she can't.

I think this is a way over the top way to celebrate a kids birthday and I think it shows bad planning on the birthday mom's part (and very poor consideration of the other DVC members). Its kind of a lazy way to plan a party too.

I'm planning a great party for DD when she turns 8 in 2 weeks and there's no way I'd ask people to drive 90 minutes, let alone anything outside of the county, to attend a party for one of my kids. If I did, it would be for a very small group of kids and be just my closest friends.

My first thought was that this family just took it upon themselves to invite a bunch of people to the hotel where they are personally staying. I have not read each post, so please forgive me if I missed something important. The mom throwing the party says she has permission, but we don't know from whom.

I have to say I would be surprised if this is really a sanctioned event that the family arranged through proper channels. If I was a hotel guest I would not be happy with a birthday party going on in the pool. If I was a hotel manager I would be ballistic about the liability/insurance of having all these kids who are NOT registered guests in the pool. I hope the OP hears some more info after this weekend!

This came right out of left field (or is its it right field?). But since it's there..yep, Disney does have the final word as to who they let park where LOL.

20 extra kids at SAB wouldn't even put a dent in that pool. But even if it did, we only rent rooms there, we don't buy into a condo where we have a voice. Your prob talking about a couple of hours, when most people would be at the parks. But even if it's a whole day, Disney can do what they want..no matter what we have to say about it. If you won't be happy that you have to share the pool with birthday party kids, I'm betting Disney would shrug. It's their pool, their rules. I just wish the OP would send this link to the person having the party, and maybe she would tell us who she talked to about this. I don't understand why so many people think she didn't really make arrangements. When you have a birthday party for your child, aren't you pretty careful to make sure you have it arranged right? Why would this be different. Do just the people on the Disboard have the "inside" info, and know that you can't just ask a CM? Why is it assumed that she didn't ask the hotel manager?

I know when they suddenly shut down MGM for Michael Jackson, I wasn't thrilled and many of us complained. It wasn't a planned in advance thing. But it didn't matter. The park owner made a decision, and apparently it was theirs to make. And we were out of there. Did I get mad and stop going to Disney? Nope. Their park, their decisions.

I'm going to agree with everything you said with the exception of..........MICHAEL JACKSON GETS YOU THROWN OUT OF MGM AND YOU DIDN'T MAKE A STINK?? lol OMG, it would have had to have been Johnny Depp for me and I would have holed up in the bathroom for HOURS if I had to just to get a peek!

On a serious note, I agree, if Disney said it was okay, then it's okay, but my only hope is that she cleared it with the proper channels (which I am going to assume she did) so that there is no problems for the kids and the guests she's invited. I don't think 20 kids are going to make a difference at SAB either, I don't get why people are so heated but it is a heated subject. Again, the OP just wanted to know if it could be done and what are opinion was on asking people to drive 90 minutes each way and that has been addressed three ways till Sunday.

Even if they have 20 people show up for this party and they all use the pool and have a good time, how will any guest that is also using the pool even know that they are part of a BDAY party? It is not like they will be wearing Shirts as they swim that say " We are part of a 20 person BDAY party at SAB and we are not guests"....They will be swimming and having a good time just like every other person that is swimming and using the pool that day.

I am sure every day of the year their are people in the pool, they are not guests there, or who have gotten permission to use the pool. One would never know, and why would you want to anyway? Who cares, you are there on vacation, suppose to be having fun..why worry about who is swimming next to you. I am sure a kids BDAY party will not take up all the pool and their will be plenty of room for everyone.

At SAB they will know because you must have a wristband and unless you are a registered guest with ID, then no wristband.

So the only way you could get that many in, is to book enough rooms to cover that many people.

LOl...that is a great idea for a t shirt...Birthday mom could get down the print shop and knock 20 up. ..It would make our spies easier to spot them and report back.

In my defense I was only going on what the OP was saying and if she said a Cast Member from the Beach Club said it was ok, so what else am I suppost to think? Again yes I know about the signs saying no pool hopping, however there are a lot of other rules with signs that WDW does not enforce. Take eating or drinking on the Disney Transport Buses. My family and others have brought drinks on in the mornings, however we were never told to throw them out even though there is a sign on the buses which say no eating and drinking, so shouldn't the drivers be enforcing this rule?

While there over Christmas there were several occasions where people were told they could not bring their drinks or food on the buses we were on; so like all things so do and some don't enforce the rules. These were in open containers rather than bottles etc. Several times peole with water or soda bottles were told they could bring them on but had to keep them closed.

Why is this being made out more then it needs to be.
1) It is a B-day party for a child.
2) You either go or don't go. Doesn't matter all the inbetween issues. Everyone has issues, say yes if you want your child to go and work around the issues of going and if not or you can't work around the issues of going then just say No, can't go.


Just because someone has a Birthday that is out of the norm, etc. doesn't make them a bad or rude parent in this case.
The fact the party is for the child and maybe thats where this child and family thought to have a party ( which I think its pretty cool). They know that if people have to drive awhile that people may or may not be able to come. Just stay with the simple facts its a party go or not go.

That lead me to believe you were discussing people as you said that are not guests there using the pool which is not allowed. Now if they have booked enough rooms to cover the occupancy for everyone, then they will all have wristbands and no problem.

I doubt I will be able to get an answer for you all about how the party went because I am still going minigolfing with the Cub Scouts on Saturday (probably dragging DD8 along too). I just hope no one causes a big stink for the parents that day for the birthday girls' sake.

It would be interesting to hear if you do. If the DVC member didn't okay it with Disney, I can't see how they'd let in so many people (but you never know!)

Sounds like a nice party. My guess is those guests who go will wind up spending the rest of the day in a theme park. I wouldn't be surprised if some of those guests have Florida resident season passes.

I didn't realize Beach Club did birthday parties but I guess for enough $$ Disney will book almost anything.

It's nice the entire class was invited. You have other plans and can't go. If you didn't have other plans you could probably have car pooled with another family and cut the gas expense in half. If money is so tight that $10 of gas is an issue then buying a gift might also be a problem.

If it was me, no $$ problem but that is IMHO a bit over the top to have something 90 minutes away for a kids birthday party. I would just send regrets whether of not my kid had other plans. Paying $20+ for fuel and then another what $25-$30 for a gift? For a kids party? Yikes!

Perhaps that is why they invited the whole class, figuring if there are 30 kids invited and only half show up, 15 kids is still a pretty good party.

Sure, it might only be "20 kids", but in reality, it is going to be 20 kids, their parents, and probably siblings as well. I'm guessing 60 as a minimum.
