Can they legally do this?

I would be ashamed to owe people money and just walk away.
Then by all means don't owe people money and then walk away from it.
Its great you are declaring bankruptcy but can afford to go to disney so many times meaning you probably could start paying off your debt, but chose not to pay it off.
 I was wondering how long before this ugly and worn out judgment would rear its Cerberus head on this thread.

My wonderful PARENTS have paid for all those trips to Disney World. Yes, I was/am a very spoiled only child. But I was not using my own personal money to go to WDW when I had credit card bills to pay. I was indeed paying my credit card bills (the minimums) until it just got WAY out of control and I was just in way over my head. That's when bankruptcy started to be discussed.

Job's been in effect for years, so if they can't "find" that... well, that's pretty sad. Bank accounts are empty or closed, depending on the account. I do not own a car, house, real estate, etc. As for Disney, see my answer above. I've been blessed with loving parents who take me to WDW quite often, without usually asking me to pay a dime (sometimes I'll pay for my AP, and generally my own souvenirs, a dinner here and there; but they cover the hotel, most dining (excluding alcoholic beverages), airfare or gas if we drive, etc). But thanks for assuming, you know what they say about people who assume. :thumbsup2

Have you looked into other options? A second job, maybe a third? How can you let the rest of society pay for your foolish spending habits? Do you have health insurance or are the rest of us to pay for that too?

I won't, and don't care to pay for those who do.

I had a hard enough time getting the FIRST job, let alone a second or third. I don't know about where you live, but around here, finding a job isn't easy. And yes, I am on Medicaid too. Lots of honest, hard-working folks are down on their luck right now, and are relying on things like Medicaid, food stamps, WIC, etc just to get by. Try to stop being so judgmental, because honestly, you just come off as downright rude and insensitive.

Don't know how me giving advice to the OP turned into a thread bashing me, but whatever, that's the DIS for you. I'll be cruising on out of this thread now. Aloha. :cutie:

I just want to say that I had a credit card file a judgement against me several months ago and *absolutely nothing* has happened since then. No letters, no court, no calls, no garnishment, *nothing*. However, I am NOW in the beginning stages of declaring bankruptcy (I have retained an attorney, I have completed the pre-bankruptcy course, I have handed in the necessary documents to my attorney, etc). I'm not declaring bankruptcy solely because I have a judgement against me, but just because I came to the realization that I was never, ever going to be able to pay down my debt, and I needed to do something to get over the hump. I have around ten credit cards that I am in debt to, one that has a judgement against me, and thus far, nothing like wage garnishment has even been mentioned (and I'm pretty sure that in New York, for the piddly amount that my job pays me [usually under $150 a week], they wouldn't actually be able to garnish anything). So, take a deep breath and try to calm down, because the boogie man is NOT coming to get you. But I do recommend meeting with a bankruptcy attorney ASAP and assessing your options.

So you take two trips a year and spend a month or more salary on those "FREE" trips yet you have 10 CCs.

How many hours do you work a week? There is no way you are doing 40 hours. You need to work more not play more and let society pay more.

You said you are spoiled and your financial behavior shows it.

Did she say whether she was filing Chapter 7 or Chapter 13? If it's Chapter 13 she will still pay the bills.

I've learned over the years to not put too much emotion into bulletin board postings for the very reason you've stated above. I've learned to keep the internet in the "entertainment" category of my life and have been happier because I've done so.

It takes some effort to establish those rules for yourself, not to mention lots of will-power to break the habit of getting emotionally invested in a stranger's life because the sheer drama of it can be so addicting.

But it is totally, TOTALLY! worth it to have the ability to get up at any time, walk away without another thought about what's going on in the lives of the people on the boards, and maybe come back tomorrow, next week or next month if you feel like watching another episode.

I so try to give people the benefit of the doubt, and on the whole my experiences have been great esp with Dis, I've met some great people (off the boards at Dis Meets) and have made life long friends, but you are absolutely right..I think part of my problem is that for years I was an EMT and worked 9-1-1 lines and this OP sounded practically suicidal in her 1st thread..I will take your very good advice and go with that approach though to save my own sanity :thumbsup2..think of it as a soap opera
