Hi all! First let me say how helpful these boards have been!!! Thank you to all for your valuable input and info!

Our situation - DS9 broke his femur bone in 3 places, had surgery to place flexible rods in femur, will most likely be confined to wheelchair during our Disney trip in 3 weeks. :sad2:

We are trying to figure out which attractions can accommodate his wheelchair without a transfer. We made a pretty good list using the info. found here, but are wondering about the Train (at both MK and AK) and the Carousel of Progress. How hard is it to maneuver a wheelchair on Tom Sawyer's Island? We also have an ADR at the Sci-Fi (DS's favorite) - what can we expect there? Are there "cars" available for wheelchairs?

Thanks so much for the help! If anyone has any other useful info. for us (being first-time wheelchair users!), feel free to share!!! :goodvibes

yes for both.
The train station at MK Main Street has a very high, steep ramp to drive up, but it is accessible. The easiest stop to use is Mickey's Toontown Fair since it is at ground level. The station at Frontierland is sort of in the middle.

The AK train is very simple.
and the Carousel of Progress.
Yes

That is not easy and I would probably skip it.

They have some cars that are actually a table set lengthwise into the car; so you are sitting sideways compared to the front of the car. There are also picnic tables - just like real drive in movie theaters used to have (not that I am old enough to know that:rolleyes1

If you haven't yet, look at post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread. Near the top, there are links to the text for the WDW Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities for each park. You want to take a look at those since they have information about accessibility. When you get to the parks, you can get a written copy in Guest Services.
There is a also a code in the park maps that tells you what accessibility is like - a wheelchair icon where the person is sitting in the wheelchair tells you the attraction is wheelchair accessible and he could stay in the wheelchair. Some wheelchairs won't fit in the specific wheelchair car - his probably will unless he has the footrest extended so his leg is held out straight. Doing that makes the wheelchair too long for most attractions. (Although it would fit on the ones you asked for in this thread).

Thank you SO much for taking the time to answer all of our questions! Glad we can add a few more things to his "can-do" list!! Thanks for the help! :goodvibes

Sorry, another question...

I saw that DINOSAUR (in AK) is listed under both categories - can ride in a wheelchair and also under must transfer - so which one is it? :confused3

Thanks!

you can't ride Dinosaur in a chair from what I remember. They made us transfer my sister into a regular ride vehicle.

My DD has ridden it a number of times in the past, so I can tell you for sure that there is not a wheelchair car.
The symbol for that attraction is a wheelchair with the person getting out. That means that the line is accessible, but you need to get out of the wheelchair and transfer to a ride car.
The line is also ECV accessible; if it wasn't, the icon would show a person getting off the ECV and getting into a wheelchair (and then getting out of the wheelchair if there is no ride car).

Even if he could transfer to Dinosaur, I would probably not recommend riding it since it is very rough and bounces you around a lot.
