Can the dates be changed on unused tickets?

My wife and I have a trip planned for May 2022. We already have our resort booked. We're using DVC points from a family friend. Outside of crazy unforeseen circumstances we will make the trip. But if the worst happens and we can't what will Disney let us do with the tickets if no days have been used?

Fully-unused tickets continue to hold their value towards new tickets. If necessary you'll be able to upgrade them with new dates, paying whatever extra may be required for the new dates.

Just forewarning...the process itself with Ticket services is simple and quick...the phone wait times are not. You have to call one number (407.566.4985) go through the prompts, and then get transferred to another number which has an even longer wait time. I called at 710 eastern, had a 12 minute wait on the first line, then an additional 40 minutes on the second. All for a transaction that ultimately took 7 minutes once I finally got to the right person. Make sure you have your ticket confirmation numbers from your email confirmation (numbers do not show up on the MDE app/website)
