Can someone with a 1 year old help me?

I just need a length measurement from under the child's arms to mid-knee ish. I'm trying to make my niece a dress, and don't want to call and ask in case I fail. I know all kids vary, but it's a dress that won't matter too much if it's off a bit.

Oh your gonna get a wide variety of answers here.. is she "big" or "small" how about you call and ask the mom what size she is in. That would give us some help! And this way if you fail you could always buy her a dress
