Is it good, bad... what is it exactly? Does anyone know what it is like firsthand to live there? Is it complimentary or redundant to live there and own DVC?

Thanks... you just never know in this life!

If you mean Celebration the town, it is just that. It is like its own community. They have shops, homes, apartments, schools, etc. It is very quaint and very expensive. We have a friend that lives in a garage apartment there. He did live in an apartment. The homes are very expensive with very little land. I guess for FL that is the norm. It is not part of DVC. If you like Disney then I am sure you would like it. It is not a resort, it is a neighborhood.

The town - and its golf course - have their own web page.

I'm not sure of the exact link but I'm sure you can find it with a little searching.

There are two books written about the place--"Celebration, USA" written by Douglas Frantz and Catherine Collins, the other one is "The Celebration Chronicles" written by Andrew Ross. If you are interested in buying I would read these books. To answer your question since Celebration is only a few miles from WDW, I believe it is on or near WDW, I have driven through there once, it would not be necessaary to be a member of DVC that is for sure. You would have your own home at WDW. There are a lot of rules that go along with living there-read one or both of the books before you dive into a purchase there.

Here's a link to the website. I believe some residents post on our Community Board as well.

Celebration

Just an FYI, there were quite a few DVCers on the Member Cruise who live in Celebration. :D

I've visited a couple times and toured some of the model homes. It looks like what you might envision a Disney Town to be. Celebration is very clean and laid out well. There are a few nice restaurants there also.

Residents do live by a set of rules though, in order to keep up the "look". I've heard there are rules as to house color, types of curtains and other visable decorative items, etc. A few years back some residents staged a protest of sorts by placing plastic pink flamingos out on lawns overnight so it would PO the Town Committee in the morning. :p

I don't see the need to live in Celebration AND own DVC. If I lived that close, yes on Disney property, I would have no need to stay at a WDW Resort any more. Unless, of course, I wanted a little variety in setting.

Celebration is the realization of Walt's original concept for Florida. The Florida Project was named EPCOT (Yes that is the same name as the theme park), which stood for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. Walt wanted to build a planned urban community that blended residential and commercial development in a town setting where families could live, work, learn and recreate. When Walt died, those plans were shelved and a more commercially viable project (WDW) was developed (probably to keep the investors money in the game).

I believe Celebration is on the original Disney land holdings. It is south of 192, off of 417. There is a hospital, golfing, nice hotel, lovely town center and carefully designed and controlled everything. It is pricey, or was when we toured it a few years back.

There are other similar planned communities around the country (at least one is in Florida). Disney brought together a mini think tank of experts on urban design, architecture, education and the like to put the project together. Nicely done in my view.

Every time I think of something, I come to this board and Whammo.... there it is! I was online for the past few nights looking into Celebration and what it is all about and then I happen to stop by here and there I find all the info I need! You all are One Stop Shopping!
