I remember someone mentioning them when I first joined the board, but I was all caught up in the planning of our Disney trip. Now that we're back, I'd like to get involved if possible.

Also, are there events in New York City?

Thanks!!

Sharon

Sharon,
That would be me. I saw that you were from CT and invited you. I really thought someone had gotten to you and told you to "stay away from that CT bunch, they are crazy" But it's good to know they haven't yet and you are willing to give us a try.
JOJOCT (Cynthia) plans meets on the second Saturday of each month at Westfarms mall in Hartford.
We meet for about an hour behind the escalators and trade pins. We have to hide behind the escalators, the security guys just don't understand trading and they accuse of of trying to sell pins to each other.
They don't understand that we are all good DIS members and know that you can't sell a pin for more than it's rack value. I guess they want Cynthia to rent one of those little kiosk carts so the mall can make some money off us little traders.
After we have had a chance to trade some, we head off to Rainforest Cafe for more trading, food and lots of great conversation. Everyone has a blast, and even the waitress has gotten involved. The last one we met said her dad collects and she was going to tell him about us.
Our next meet should be on April 13th, but alas, our faithful leader will be paying an exhorbitant price to go to MGM for dinner and a CHANCE to purchase pins. I am not sure if she is going to change the date, but hopefully she will let us know soon.
Our meets usually begin about 3:30 for trading and 5 for dinner. I get there about 5 because in the words of Nat "I have to work"
So, I will get back to you as soon as I know when our next meet will be. We all look forward to meeting a new trader and friend. Peggie

Peggie,

At lunch she told us she was not going to change the date. She didn't want to confuse anyone. She wants the 2nd Saturday of the month to be the standing date. She mentioned something about you buying lunch next month? LOL!

See you then.

(about meeting April 13th, not about you buying lunch!)

Yes, we have many people involved in these meets and no one can get to all of them. If we start changing dates we'll only confuse people, and heaven forbid that someone come on the second Saturday of the month and not find another pin trader!! So while I am getting my face painted in preparation for the most expensive dinner of my life at AK, many pin traders will be gathering at West Farms Mall. It's just off of I-84 in the West Hartford area. Please come and share this crazy habit of ours.

There are meets in NYC, too. In fact there is one coming up on April 7th and I am planning to go to that one. In New York we get together around noon at the Disney Store on 5th Avenue, then move to the foyer of the Sony Building, which is just around the corner from TDS. Dom and I are taking the train into the city, then staying to see the lights come on at the Trade Center before taking the train home. Perhaps I will see you in NY, even if I miss you at West Farms.

Hi guys,
Thanks so much and I would love to join you! I think the only problem may be the distance...possibly over an hour drive! Also, would it be okay if my son comes with me? He is ten and has really gotten into the trading thing.

Do you all live up in the eastern part of CT?

Thanks again!

Sharon

Although I am not hosting this the event this year in NYC I can assure you that a good time will be had by all. I can only hope that the ceiling will not come crashing down again this year......I will be there, just not hosting due to a VERY hectic schedule!

I hope to see Sharon and family and all my old NYC pin meet friends on April 7th!

Hi Linda!

I thought we would not be able to make the NYC one, since my son is playing in the CT state chess tournament in Greenwich that weekend, but it looks like his section may just be playing on the 6th, so we would be good to go! I'll know more details as we get closer, but we are both looking forward to going to the Sony Wonder Space, because I know that he can always go off an play some playstation for a while if he needs a break....lol!!

Sharon

Hi Sharon. Just want to say welcome from the .....and Dom portion of the CT Contingent. Hope to see you in NYC and or Westfarms on the 13th! (Sounds like my kind of day!! Too bad it wasn't a Friday!! :D :D )

And yes it is fine to bring your son. Their are a few other kids that join us from time to time.

Thanks Dom! Look forward to seeing you all soon!! What is the turnout usually like in New York?

Sharon

As others can tell you, the last meet I ran in NYC was a smashing success....literally. We had it in February and had well over 100 traders. During the meet icicles on the building were crashing on to the glass ceiling of the Sony Wonder Public Space. We jokingly asked the guard what would happen if the ceining fell in and he laughed. At the end of the met nobody was laughing when the ceiling actually came crashing down. Luckily most of the traders ahd left at that point and very early in the meet the guard had asked us to move to another part of the space or there would have been people injured.

On to more important things. These meets are just plain fun, whether there are 2 traders or 200. It is a chance to meet new people, get a good look at some fabulous collections and just have a good time. The Sony Space is great because there are tables and chairs and they don't kick us out. this particular meet started out in February 2000 with a handful of us and continued last February with over 100. We from the DIS were joined by a group from Dizpins and other sites who had heard about the meet and it made it all the more fun. This year the meet is being organized by Joanne/Dumbogal. I don't have the time to organize it due to my hectic schedule so I gladly deferred to Joanne. Regardless who organizes them, meets are an important way to keep connected with pin trading when we can't get down to the World.

I can't wait to see everyone again and I hope you and the family can come so we can all get to know you.

Linda
