I am looking at taking an overnight trip to Shortpump mall (near Richmond, VA) and dont want to spend a fortune on a room. I have never used Priceline before, but was interested in the name your own price thing.
I dont want to get put in a horrible hotel. I would need 2 rooms. Can I request 2 rooms and how do I go about bidding, etc.
Thanks for any help!

We have done Hotwire for hotels and priceline for air and car. It is good for 4 star hotels cheap...but I have had less luck with lower star ratings.

Do you name a price with Hotwire too? I would want a nicer hotel anyway. How does it work?

Hotwire lists the lowest price they will take. We have saved a lot and stayed at the Omni in new Orleans for 100 less than posted . Also look into reviews on the hotels.

I use priceline quite a bit. Pick your area, pick the highest rating---try for 3.5+. I think Priceline is a bit low on their ratings...I am not sure that I think their 3 star is a 3....more like a 2.5. A 3.5 gets you a really nice hotel, a 3 gets you decent.

In the name your own price, I normally bid about 40-50% less than what the average price is. Also- on hotwire you can do the "get a room tonight" where if uses your location and gets you a room. Hotwire does not show name but a specific price.

A bit down the road from Shortpump area is a Homewood Suites. We have gotten it for $89 a night in mid-Feb. It's a nice hotel, free breakfast and not too far from Shortpump. We just went straight to the Homewood site to book.

I just wanted to throw out there to OP that bidding on Priceline only guarantees you space to sleep two. It sounds like she may need more than that. A website that discusses all bidding on hotwire and priceline is biddingfortravel.

Thanks for letting me know that. Yes, I am traveling with my Dmom, Dsis, 3 DD's and niece...so we need 2 rooms that sleep 4 each. I will check out the biddingfortravel you posted. :thumbsup2
