Can someone help me with hotels?

We are a family of 6 who would like to go to DLR next spring. Neither dh nor I have ever been, so it will be a new experience for all of us.

We're thinking of coming during off-peak season to be able to save some $$ so we can stay longer. We also have some food allergies. so, I'm trying to find a hotel that is within walking distance that would have a mini-kitchen. I know most hotels have microwaves and mini-fridges, but from looking at pics it doesn't look like there would be anywhere to actually prepare food.

is there anything that would meet all of these requirements?
- within walking distance
- room for 6 of us
- mini kitchen with prep area

of course, the less expensive the better! thanks for any help!

My recommendation has 2 of your 3 requirements but it is NOT in walking distance but it IS on the ART line with only 1 other stop. It is the Homewood Suites by Hilton - Anaheim Maingate. We love this hotel! Really nice suites with full kitchens (full size fridge, oven, micro, dishwasher). They have 2 BR suites that would work for your large family. We have a party of 5 (3 adults, 2 young kids) and we use a 1 BR suite. The 'living room' area has a pull out bed that is new and very comfortable for a sofa-bed. Also, free deluxe hot breakfast (for those without allergies). We are going at the mid/end of Sept and I plan on taking lots of photos to share when I get back.

Two others that we like are:

The Residence Inn-Garden Grove...they have 1 or 2 bdrm suites, each with pull out sofa and full stocked kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher..they even have grills that you can use outside by the pool area. They serve full breakfast

The Staybridge Suites on Manchester...they have the same 1 or 2 bdrm suites, each with a pull out sofa and full stocked kitchen with , stove top, full fridge, microwave, and dishwasher...they serve breakfast, have free laundry facility and grills outdoors too...

These are both great hotels as well as the Homewood suites...they are on the ART transportation system but not within walking distance...

We have stayed at the Residence Inn on Clementine St. and really enjoyed it there. It has 1 and 2 BR suites with full kitchenette and is located beside the Anaheim Gardenwalk. We walked every day and it took our family (including 3 kids) less than 15 minutes to walk from our room to the DLR bag check area.

thanks for the replies! my only concern with not staying close is that we have a 3 year old who may need some down time. but those suites look really nice!

how hard would it be to bring a cooler for lunches on the ART?

We have a family of 5 and stayed at the Homewood Suites this past summer. We loved it! We loved the full size refrigerator - it was so handy! The ART bus picks up right in front of the hotel and we loved the ART - it was a nice ride and ran pretty much on time every 20 minutes.

We had a three year old as well and she did fine - we did a longer day one day (8 am to 3pm) and then built in rest time for everyone on the day we planned to do the fireworks. She doesn't nap anymore though, so we weren't working around that.

You could bring a small cooler on the ART - the bus that took us was a full size bus with plenty of room.

There is a suite at the Park Vue hotel that has a kitchen. We have never stayed there, but I believe it is walking distance.

Check the BWPPI mini suites, they may have a kitchen area. You could also try to rent some points from a Worldmark owner, they have a new resort in Anaheim by the Garden Walk, they have full kitchens and laundry in the room. There are rules you would have to follow tho because it's a timeshare so keep that in mind. You could walk it but ART would be better. In a pinch you could take a taxi to your hotel, there are plenty out in front all during the day.

We have been doing a lot of research into hotels lately. We found a one bedroom kitchen suite, and a two bedroom kitchen suite at the Tropicana that looked really great, however it was more than we were hoping to spend. Everyone's price range is a little different though, so you might check it out. A kitchen would have been nice, but it was not a necessity in our case. The hotel is right across the street from the entrance to Disneyland and has pretty good reviews. You cannot book the suites through Disney, but if you go to the hotel website, they have lots of info as well as floor plans. Hope you enjoy your trip!
