Seems like a fun time to visit the parks but I'm not familiar with the ins and outs. Is there an additional fee to attend? Do you get to sample lots of different food? I'm confused, help! :goodvibes

There is no additional ticket to buy to get into Epcot for F&W Festival. You purchase small tasting portions of different foods and drinks (wine or beer) at stands around World Showcase. You can check out menus from past years' stands here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/guides/epcot/events/FWmenus.htm

That'll give you an idea of what to expect, but the countries can change from year to year, as well as what each country is serving. From what I understand, some items qualify as a snack if you're on the dining plan. Otherwise, it may be easiest to purchase a gift card and use that. I've heard that they have a special one for F&W Fest that has a cord so you can wear it on your wrist so you don't have to keep fishing for it in a purse or pocket. HTH

OMG - I just realized we're going to be there at the same time! Enjoy your trip!

I think - if I am not mistaken - that Mommy2allyandaveri is going to DLR, not to WDW. DLR has its own Food & Wine Festival, as well. I am also curious to know about it. It does sound like fun.

Here is my very basic understanding

Food--
restraunts around DCA have special small serving sized food that would not otherwise be offered. Most of the time they are fancy appatizer-ish foods

Wine-
different seminars and tasting events are scheduled throughout the day. Most are a first come first served type of event and I think you have to line up pretty early for them.
Some cost and are reservation based.

I dont really know much about the seminars
some are how to cook certain dish and pair with certain wine
some are winemaker talks
um not really sure what else

the reservation ones could be soemthing like a full meal prepaired by the chef of a certain restraunt paired with wine tastings from a certain winery

Oh and there is also a few beer choices too

Sorry, may not be much info, but at least a starting point

The food and wine festival is awesome. I know they've made some changes last year, but we went twice last year (just happened to be two trips within the food and wine dates).

Our first time there we didn't really understand it - we thought it might cost to go to the daily scheduled events - but it doesn't! Online right now there is a daily schedule for every day of the festival April 16 - May 31. We went to one presentation by a bakery, smoothies, chicken, pineapple chicken, and a few others. You do have to line up around 30 minutes before the presentation to gurentee yourself a seat. But its worth it. You get a little bottle of water, a notepad and also information on the food being made. There is a live demonstration and then while they're cooking it they bring out the finished product for you to try. It is then followed by a short q&a session. Its about a 30 minute total seminar and its completely free!!

We've never done the wine or beer tastings, but this year they are charging a $1 for wristbands that you get after you provide ID that you are of age. Just an FYI to anyone who went last year and is expecting it to be free.

Also, throughout the park there are different wine/beer tastings set up in shaded areas off to the side. We've never done these either as DH isn't a drinker, but it looks pretty cool to me.

Almost every restaurant/counter service in the park has one or two additional items available during the festival - things like "Seared Ahi Tuna Salad" were served at Taste Pilot's Grill.

There are also a number of pretty expensive signature events - like one that teaches you how to cook in the kitchen of Napa Rose with famous chefs as your teachers - its only $495! haha! There are also a "Taste Wine like an Expert" event on 4 or 5 different special dates, and those will only set you back around $55. For a full list of these pricey signature events click here.

One more thing - there are also fun activities for the kids at the Jr.Chef stage. Don't have kids, so no experience with this either. But I believe the kids get to make and eat something - I think it gets pretty good reviews but I'm sure others will let you know more about it!

HTH! :goodvibes

For pictures and more information there is link in my signature about my experiences for the past two years. However, I can give you more of an idea, the PP covered it pretty well. I love the signature events and have done the Cooking School for the past two years, and will be there on Saturday :cool1:

However one doesn't need to attend the pricey events to enjoy it, you just need to have admission to DCA. If you're familiar with DCA they set up the Culinary Demo tent in Sunshine Plaza. This is where all the food demos take place and 1/2 an hour beforehand is usually plenty of time to get there, unless it is a Celebrity Chef then you'll need to get there at least three hours in advance if not when the park opens!

It's really fun if you're into food and cooking, they show you how to make something and then you get a little plate of what they made. This year they have a new section which should be a little bit more like the Epcot Festival where you can purchase small plates of food specially prepared for the Festival. They'll also have wines that will pair well with the food.

There is wine tasting on the patio next to the Wine Country Trattoria, as the PP said this year they are charging $1. I believe she also gave you a link to the schedule which was just posted a couple days ago. The beer & spirits tasting takes place down near the Mexican Restaurant at Pacific Wharf. They don't give you much but I found the information that our hosts gave us to quite fascinating.

There is also an "adults only" lounge where flights of wine are served and little bittes of food upstairs at the winery. We went there twice last year and got a cheese plate with some flights of wine and another time, I got their filet mignon sliders. They will probably have all different food this year.

We check into the VGC on Friday and will be staying until Monday. We will hopefully check out some of the available selections as soon as we get there, and I'll be posting pictures and reviews of everything I do and eat.

Oh come on, it's only $475, that's a deal!

Sherry E, you are correct. We are going to DL.

Thanks for the info everyone. I would really like to attend this event one day in the future!

Come see a fellow DISer at F&W!!!

A good friend of mine is doing a cheese and wine pairing for the Food and Wine Festival, and I'm flying down to be her assistant (or "Cheezette", as we like to say) for the weekend. The event is listed as Cheese and Wine Pairing with Barrie Lynn, The Cheese Impresario.

Our schedule:
Friday, May 14th 6:45 pm
Saturday, May 15th 11:30 am
Sunday, May 16th 3:45 pm

Barrie Lynn got interested in the Disney food scene through my telling her about my trips and TRs. It is madly fun that she is doing the festival!

Dang! I would be there for ANY other weekend but that is Long Beach Pride and as a band member, we volunteer at the festival for money towards our organization. I'd love to support you and it sounds great! I'm sure you'll get a good turn out!

I looked at your photos and review - excellent!! I love the pictures! I will try to make a point of referring people to your link if & when more questions come up about the F&W Festival (which I am sure they will, as the F&W festival is rapidly approaching).

Have fun this weekend! I'm looking forward to checking out opening weekend as well during our free time on our ABD trip.

What instrument do you play? I play trombone in a circus band...:goodvibes

Maybe we'll see you there this weekend! My main instrument is the saxophone, but I also play the flute, clarinet and piano...I'll be looking out for Anna too.
