Can someone explain the appeal of buying furniture from Wayfair?

I've outfitted my apartment with furniture and other items from Wayfair, Amazon and Walmart ( set of nice dinnerware ). So far I've enjoyed every item I have purchased and everything was significantly less expensive that if I had purchased it locally. It's not Ikea level furniture - every piece is solid wood, and the couch I ordered is full leather.

Here are some of the requirement I made for myself for the items I have bought. Decide what features are most important to you, and use that to limit your search. Once you have done that, READ the reviews. I want an item that has a significant number of reviews, with at least 75% or more 4 and 5 star reviews on a 1-5 scale. The ones that pass muster get put on a wish list so I can then compare the items that have appealed to me. I've also found that the same item may be listed on other sites ( Overstock, Hayneedle, etc ) under different names or manufacturers so those are worth checking out. You would be surprised then number of stores that sell furniture online - there is a coffee table I am interested in and the two places with the lowest price are Amazon and Home Depot (!). Google Shopping is your friend.

So far I've been lucky enough to by all my furniture new, shipped free to my home for about what a comparable item would cost used on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. Simply because I limited my choices to the feature(s) that were important to me, vetted the quality of the item ( Wayfair and Amazon reviews were very helpful ) and then waited till the item was offered at a price I found to be acceptable. Patient will save you loads of money !

I wanted a coffee table and console table with lots of storage. I visited a couple of furniture stores here in Richmond, but no luck. Wayfair had hundreds of choices!! I got a matching pair of tables that have large baskets that pull out for storage. And the console table has 2 shelves, and 2 small cupboards. Very handy for quickly getting rid of clutter.

We bought two dressers and nightstands and are quite happy. Paid less than comparable items at a real furniture store. The brought them into the house and we put them in the bed room. quite happy.

My concern with Wayfair is dependent on how you prefer to buy- short term or long term. I’m a long term purchaser so Wayfair is not for me. I want furniture with mortised joints, made of hardwood, and brushed on finishes.

I've purchased several small furniture items for the little ones at Wayfair. No problems with prices, merchandise or delivery. I am a satisfied customer and will likely shop with them in the future.

I know this is an old thread. Posting anyway.

We moved into our house at the very beginning of the shut down and let me tell you, furnishing an entire house during the pandemic is... trying. 😔 Supply chains are struggling, prices are inflated, shipping times are delayed, and everything is out of stock... or is it discontinued? No one seems to know! :faint:

Nearly every furniture purchase has been a pain in one way or another. We bought a couch and recliner from a company that had a four month shipping estimate. After six months and numerous attempts at contacting them to get an answer about the furniture’s whereabouts, they finally confessed they lost our furniture and wanted to know if we were interested in reordering and waiting another four months. We took a refund and bought a different couch from Wayfair. A couple months after ordering, they contacted us to say the couch had been unexpectedly discontinued and refunded our money. We then bought a third couch to replace the second. After a few weeks, Wayfair contacted us to say the couch had been unexpectedly discontinued and refunded our money.

We got a lot of indoor and outdoor furniture from wayfair and satisfied customer here

I love their selection but I do agree that many of their popular items are out of stock with long wait lists. I've only bought a few smaller things from them. I did buy a table that had some damaged pieces. I didn't have to send it back, they shipped me the replacement pieces.

Trust the persuasion. If they delivered the wrong product, not suitable in size, color, or the complete opposite of the product described on the site, do not trust the words about the subsequent replacement after signing the bill of lading, acceptance of goods.

I hate Wayfair. I ordered a chair from them once and it took them weeks to deliver it. I thought that was a one-off but then my boss bought me a very nice work desk from there and again it took them almost 2 months to deliver it. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 Never again. I would have gotten my stuff faster if I had it handcrafted by a blind one armed man.

:sad2: Yes this - so much. At this point any significant purchase is local at bricks-and-mortar chosen from what’s in stock and with a delivery date arranged then and there. For our recent dishwasher purchase we actually bought the floor model cash-and-carry and made them take it out of the display and load it up for us. Right now I really want a new sofa set so I pop in different places all the time to see if there’s anything I like. I’ll grab it when I find it.

They delivered the wrong couch to my sister-in-law 3 times. The 4th one was right but was like sitting on concrete. They sent it back ordered a different one and they sent the wrong one again. They decided the wrong one was comfortable enough and, to get out of the endless circle, they just kept it. Our other brother and sister-in-law got the wrong sectional with the chaise on the wrong end. They sent them the right one but told them to just keep the wrong one which was weird, but was right in the middle of Covid, so that might be why. Seems like they send the wrong stuff a lot.

I just recently started buying from Wayfair. I bought three area rugs and it was so nice to have them come to my door lol.

I did just have a mishap where I ordered a coat hanging rack and I got...a soap dispenser. Lol. Not even close. I was able to use their website to remedy that. The phone wait said over an hour wait.

HOWEVER, they say up to two weeks to get the new coat rack, which is annoying. They also said to hang onto the soap dispenser until they “decide what to do.” If they want it back, they will then send a return label within two weeks. Now I have to keep track of this soap dispenser for a few weeks, lol. The dispenser is like $12, so I’m kinda hoping they let me keep it...

And that customer service deal is game-changing. Example. We have a Weber grill. I went on Weber's website and bought their brush. Don't know why I didn't use Amazon, but there you go. What I received...a grill basket. Okay, but not what I ordered. I called and wanted them to ship the brush, and offered to ship the basket back. They told me to KEEP the basket. Then he ordered both size brushes AND two aprons for our trouble, and overnighted it. Best $17 I ever spent. I will never NOT buy from Weber's website again.

ETA: DOH. Didn't see how old the thread was.

Still a relevant topic

Very poorly made Chinese imports for the most part. Go to Ikea instead, at least there you can see and try out what you are getting before the box arrives. Better yet, seek out a local shop and give them some business.

Agree. I purposely avoid Chinese goods when I can. Many of the larger web-sellers like Wayfair don't always list where the products are produced. Lots of the more modestly-priced furniture in local stores is imported from Asia too but at least you can ask somebody and make a different choice if it's important to you.
