Can someone explain how the internet pricing works on the ships?

I am seeing posts that say the large internet package is $89 and other posts that say it is $29, so I am just a bit confused as to how the internet pricing all works and I was hoping someone could explain it to a DCL newbie?

Thanks advance for the help!

You essentially but a data package. The $89 is the largest package available for 1 GB of data (the lowest price per MB). You can purchase lower packages, and if you go over you can just but more.

Someone will probably post the exact packages available.

Forgot to mention, the $29 for the 1GB was a special intro offer from a couple years ago.

I just like to put my phone in the safe on day 1 and not even turn it on until I am walking off the boat. Easiest money that I dont have to spend on the trip. :smickey:

There are not a lot of things that I can say Carnival Cruise Lines does better, but I much prefer their data plans over Disney's.

Carnival’s Internet plans include:

  • Social ($5 USD per day)* – Offers access to sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Linkedin, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and popular airline websites. Note: Plan does not include in-app calling, Facetime, Snapchat, iMessage or access to any other sites or apps.
  • Value ($16 USD per day)* – Provides access to a wide variety of sites and apps, including social media, e-mail, news, sports, weather, banking and more. Note: Does not support Skype calling or music streaming services such as Spotify.
  • Premium ($25 USD per day)* – Promises the fastest possible connection and includes access to all websites and apps, including some streaming video services.
Some of us still have to work even on a cruise (travel agent here :) ). It is much easier when you know your costs and don't have to try and estimate how much data you will use.

It depends on the phone.... I love the DCL $89 1gb quantity based package. I can use my phone to keep in touch with family members without needing to use the WAVE phone. Just need to limit browsing and streaming to keep my data down.

Watch out for updates.... iPad sucked 300mb in minutes. Bad iPad, Bad iPad!

iPads as is the case with all iThingys is that they are very "chatty" - it's always asking the internet ... "do I have mail, .... How about now? .... Really there should be something for me... check again ... and again ... RIGHT NOW ..... hey, can i do an update ... aw come on there must be an update ... hey look I'm in a foreign country, how about a system update .... I MUST Use Data .... "

with my Android phone, i went to the google play store settings and turned off Auto Update. I assume that you can do this with an iThingys as well.

I cruise so that I don't have to work and I can ignore the real world, so the phone goes into Airplane Mode, Turn back on WiFi and just use the DCL Navigator app. Sometimes headlines from Google and Yahoo Finance and CBS Sports sneak through the DCL internet and those notifications show up on the phone (magic happens)

The iPad stays in airplane mode while onboard the ship! I do believe that you can turn off auto update of the apps on the iThingys as well if you want to use it while onboard.

I loved having unlimited internet for 16 dollars a day. It's nice not having to turn off all the apps on your phone, turn off email etc etc. .

RCL was the same way, and the speed was actually blazing fast. Like, my husband was streaming the football game on his phone without lags or delays fast. We took it as a second honeymoon and could Facetime our son whenever. Not that we would ever go on DCL without our kids to need to Facetime there!!!

I'm relocating for work and it came with a couple months of exclusively working from home - if I wasn't past the deadline for cruising while expecting, I would so have signed on for something long and random on RCL and worked from my cabin on my laptop during the day.

Wasn't there a verizon cruise plan someone mentioned here before? I vaguely remember
someone mentioning it.

Loved RCL's internet package. I like to watch Netflix before bed and that eats away at a quick rate. On our last cruise, which was our first RCL, I never had any issues with streaming. It was wonderful and so much less expensive than what I would have paid with DCL.
Was able to get the unlimited package for less than $16 Cnd (about 11.50 US) for our cruises in 2018. For this upcoming cruise I purchased the Deluxe Beverage Package and Voom Surf and Stream as a combo for $72 Cnd a day (about $51 US) and I feel that is an amazing deal. This is one area DCL really fails in. They should at least offer an unlimited package at what ever cost, just offer it.[/
