We're looking into dining options for our Jan 2007 trip. I've heard a little bit about this card, but really don't know any of the details. I'd like to hear pros and cons. Thanks!

Well, the first part of it is you have to be an AP holder or Florida resident.

The next part is it is $60/$85 card good for a year from purchase that gets you 20% off at most table service restaurants and a few counter service places.

If you eat at a lot of table service restaurants while at Disney and are able to purchase this card, GET IT!!! We purchased annual passes this year with the new DVC discount and planned two WDW trips within the year, so we were ableto get DDE. I think we paid for it within the first meal or two of a week-long trip. And there is no other discount as good for food at Disney. It's accepted at nearly every restaurant and covers your entire party (up to some reasonable number, I believe). I haven't looked at the Dining plan breakdowns to see how much you're typically saving with that, but if you want more options and flexibility than that allows, go with the DDE. Particularly if you're big wine drinkers like us. That 20% off applies to alcohol, too!

Thanks so much for the input. We won't be needing an AP for our trip in Jan.,so the DDE won't work for us. I will consider it for future trips! Thanks!

Is there anywhere on the grounds to purchase the DDE? From what I understand, it expires 1 year from date of purchase (not from first day of use) and I would like it to coincide with my AP expiration.

No, you can not purchase it anywhere on disney property. You can call, purchase it, and pick up the temporary letter to use at guest services outside of EPCOT, the guest services before you even enter the park.
You need your annual pass/voucher number to purchase the card over the phone/internet. Yes, it expires one year from date of purchase, give/or take.

You can actually get almost 13 months on a DDE depending when you order.

If you order on the 7day or later in a month it will not expire until one year after the last day of the following month.

For example, I will be calling on the 8th of May for mine and it will be good until June 30, 2007.

From what I understand, and this was last October, if you inform them at any Guest Services, you can pick up your card, I think within 24 hours from the Guest Services at EPCOT. And we also took advantage of the 13 month deal and ordered ours on October 8, but it's good through next November.

I did that just kind of as a security in planning our fall trip. We've been there for 14 days so far since October and have saved several hundred dollars. There were 3 of us in November and 2 last week. We are going for another 9 days in October, then there will be 4 of us. It really does pay if you go enough.
