can someone explain booking a hotel under an expedia rate

Hi..booked the Dolphin 12/16 12/28, and our rates will change during our stay due to Christmas. I booked anyway at a high rate of 269 for 12/25,26,27. Then when I called to check on it I was told we are booked under an Expedia rate of 169 for those 3 days! As thrilled as I am with the 169 rate, I did not ask for it, nor have I ever booked under Expedia. What do I need to be prepared for at check-in? Please walk me thru this as I will need to search for new rates if Icannot use this great rate!
