Can someone explain "Biggest Loser" to me

I just turned this on for the first time and don't understand something.

The trainers are mad at the red team because the girl supposedly threw the weigh in. Why would she try to not lose weight? Don't you get kicked off if you don't lose weight?

Seems like a lot of a drama and could be good if I understand it.

Thanks in advance.

The week before her and her husband had won the challenge giving them immunity from being kicked off. She didn't put the effort in to lose the weight so at the weigh in she ended up gaining a pound as it didn't matter as she had immunity. This week her weight didn't matter just her husband's (as far as being below the yellow line and being able to be voted off only the "student's" weight factored in this week)so she once again didn't put much effort in and only lost a pound. Theory is that when she does start putting in the effort again she'll have a big number which will be when the other contestants are getting smaller numbers. I think it'll back fire on her though in the long run. Bob and Jillian understand the game play but she's pissing them off by denying that she's playing the game. Sometimes contestants get wrapped up in the game play too early and it puts a target on their back with the other contestants, especially if/when they fall below the yellow line in the future.

Got it. Makes sense!! Thanks.

You're welcome :goodvibes Biggest Loser is addicting. We DVR it every week so it only ends up being about an hour without commercials (and fast forwarded through the repeat stuff) but now that they're doing two seasons a year I feel like I'm always watching Biggest Loser. Over on the WISH board of the Dis they have a thread talking about the stuff on the show (I believe there was one on the Community Board as well).

It is addicting. I was only going to watch the first hour and then re watch the Lost finale. Now I think I'm going to tape Lost and watch the rest. Definitely a DVR show though, too many commercials!!

Bob & Jillian were mad at the red team for throwing the weigh in - but not b/c she didn't put the effort it. She was doing the work, and has all the signs of the weight loss, but it didn't show on the scale. They "think" she was water loading which means that before the weigh in she drank a lot of water - this would keep her weight up on the scale, but not add any calories so she could burn it again really quick, either that or she might be binge eating but they haven't proved anything. The red team think that Bob & Jillian can't tell, but after training so many people I think they would know if something was going on.

The one thing that bugs me about the show are the not-so-subtle commercials during the actual show. They are obviously sponsored by certain products and have to mention them. For example, last night Jillian talked to the gray team about keeping their fruits and vegetables fresh with the new double lock Ziploc bags or something like that. She looked like she was doing a commercial for Ziploc.

My kids crack up over this (they're always repeating the gum "commercials.") I always wondered if people drank a gallon of water when they were immune - it would seem logical.

Jillian used to have a radio show every Sunday that I would get on iTunes. One of her least favorite things about the show (Biggest Loser) is doing those little commercials during the show (they have a proper name but I can't remember it). She is strongly against microwaving food in plastic so her and the show went back and forth last season about the Ziploc bags that you steam food in. She is under contract to do a certain number of them (as well as the contestants) but she said Bob ended up doing most of those and she did more of the gum and Brita ones :).

Produce Placement

Biggest Loser does more of it than any other show on television.
