Can someone describe WATP to me?

I've seen the videos and know that so many of you love them, but I was wondering if someone could describe what the workout is in a little more detail (I'm interested in the 1, 2, and/or 3 mile)...do you need a lot of room to walk around, do you swing your arms, are you basically "copying" the person on the video like other work out videos? Is there some kind of scenery like you're walking on the beach or something like that?

Just curious, this sounds like something I'd like to do, and it MUST be great if so many of you like it! I go walking at least twice a week, but I'm looking for something I can do at home after work when I don't feel like going out, etc.

Oh, one more question...about how much time does it take?

Thanks!

You're right - WATP are old favorites around here and I'm sure you'll get a lot of positive responses!!! The videos are like regular exercise videos shot in a large room with Leslie Sansone and her group of walkers who vary in age and size.

Each video starts with a warm-up, gradual increase in pace, brisk walk segment, cool-down, and a couple minutes of stretching. In between you do walking, leg lifts, kicks, and side steps as core moves with maybe some kick backs and of course arm movements. You do not need a lot of room - minimum just enough to do a good side step. For a couple segments she may have you walk forward 2 or 4 steps and then return to starting point. The miles are 15 minutes each so 1 mile = 15 min, 2 mile = 30, and 3 mile = 45. The segments for each series is different. I have the one with the stretchie and weighted balls. They help do double duty because you work your arms with them during the walk rather than try to fit in a separate work out.

I really do love my tapes because you get a great workout in a relatively short period of time, there really is no jumping so it's easy on your joints, and it motivates you - there is a mile marker in each tape so Leslie let's you know how far you've gone. Let me know if you have any other questions!!!

I watched my first one yesterday. I'm hooked! I think my kids are too! Dd didn't want to come to dinner and when she finally did, she ate fast and went right back to it! Ds asked to watch it later in the evening! :)

She does remind you that if you don't have room to do a particular step than just walk in place. So far I've found it to be a very good workout and I haven't done any of the high calorie burns or area specific workouts!

My only complaint is that in the window behind her you see a storm roll in--it gets darker and darker and you see lightning. She even mentions that she couldn't walk outside. Then, 10 minutes later it switches SUDDENLY from dark and gloomy skies to bright blue skies!! Ds (6) noticed that and we had to rewind 3 times to watch the instant change of weather! :)

These sound great! Where do you get them? Are they the same tapes that are usually offered thru the WW Magazine?

I picked mine up at wal-mart. They are also at target and last night i saw the dvd's at Kroger! So they are not hard to find and you can get the 3 different walking distances altogether w/ the ab belt for around 22 bucks. Great investment!!!!!!!!
