Can someone describe Forbidden Journey to me?

I tried to watch a YouTube video of this ride to see how intense it is but the video was so dark you really couldn't see anything. I saw that it looks like you are flying with Harry. Are you sitting in seats or are you suspended in the air like with Soarin at WDW? Are there effects like air blowing on you or smells on the ride?

And is it smart to go straight back to this ride when you first get there in the am?

Your ride vehicle is on the end of a robotic arm that is itself on a slow-moving track. For most of the ride, you are being moved through traditional dark-ride-type sets. The elements of these sets can be somewhat scary and can get close. There are three portions, however, where you are in front of a screen and made to look like you are flying through the air following wizards on broomsticks. These simulated portions make some people ill. The robotic arm movement is very smooth and fluid, and you will experience many positions--such as flat on your back--but none are upside down. The ride lasts about 4 minutes and change.

what are the restraints like on the seats? I'm the main reason I ask is that I'm a ride wimp and going on my back worries me. Is it very obvious that your going onto your back or is it slow and subtle? I really want to ride this, even if it's just once.

There is a lot of movement but it is smooth.

The part where you are on your back for the longest is the whomping willow scene. You can tell you're on your back, but that scene only lasts maybe 10-15 seconds. Even then, you're only flat on your back for about 2 of those seconds.

If you really want to ride it, then that's your answer. Make up your mind and just do it. Decide ahead of time that it is going to be 100% GREAT, regardless of piddling details and don't let the "ride wimp" talk the rest of you out of it.

Have you noticed that in hundreds of trip reports and posts you never see/hear anyone say "that was a waste--wish I hadn't bothered." ? Life only happens once...the ride is safe...you really want to ride it...so just make up your mind, stop stressing yourself out and do it.

This is really good advice! I will add a word of caution, however, if you are prone to motion sickness (like I am): don't eat a big meal or drink lots of liquid before you ride (have the Butterbeer after!), and if you start to feel sick, just concentrate on Harry's image and breathe really slowly. I am very glad I experienced FJ first hand but won't ride it again, so hurrah for the castle walking tour!!!

If you are prone to motion sickness, take a Dramamine before going on it. The girl I sat next to after the ride rocked herself for an hour before getting well.

I took a Dramamine and it took about 20 minutes of sitting before I stopped being dizzy.

The cominbation of the movement plus the simulation screen makes you motion sick.

/sounds like Spiderman, if you can do Spiderman can you handle this?

There really is no comparison. In Spiderman, all the screens are quite far away from the vehicle...in FJ they are very close. I think that is what causes the motion sickness. That's why I close my eyes during the simulation scenes.

You are on the right track. It is more because the FJ screens take up almost your entire field-of-view and Spiderman's don't. In FJ, your eyes see something mostly in conflict with your sense of balance--brains don't like this. In some people that means stomachs don't like it either. That is not a problem in Spidey because the screen is only taking up a portion of your field-of-view and the brain accounts for that.

I got sick on Jimmy Neutron, lol. My brain isn't good at accounting, I guess!
