Can someone clarify when and when you pick up the duty free you buy

I read that is you are on a B2B they are keeping it until the second cruise, but what if we were cruising with a friend who was not staying on for the second can they say pick it up and put it in our room?

I believe it can only be picked up as you depart the ship.

Our Wonder cruise we just got off, the pick up place was the Port Adventures desk (right by the door exiting the ship).
