Did someone ask for a history lesson on the Chalk Circle and the WDWWDS?
Quite a long time ago there was a thread covering "How do you reserve parade seats in WDW and what do you do to defend it"? The discussions included a number of far out ideas such as laying down towels along the curb and drawing circles in chalk on the sidewalk. Eventually that thread got shut down while I was suggesting unique "techniques" for defending your precious parade turf, which didn't meet the approval of the mods. From that, was born one of my first DIS business ventures called the DVTC - The Disney Vacation Towel Club. We provided members the towel laying service using towels we ahh...liberated from Disney hotels. The thread had a decent following until a competitor tried to cut in our market share with a Chalk Circle service. The DVTC went bankrupt and the thread is long dead.
Later, the long standing Parks Trivia Game adopted the "Chalk Circle" as it's virtual meeting place. Recently an annex thread was created down here on the CB so that the game itself could stay more on topic and not flood the already busy Parks Board with "fluff". The annex has since been closed down, but not before one of the CB legends popped in to participate in the virtual orgies that were going on at the time. I believe the other participants dubbed him Long Dan Silver. Sigh, anyway, Alex shut us down for breaking DIS rules. Hmm...seems to be a common theme that follows me around. I'm happy to report that everyone is behaving themselves......really....no, really, I'm not kidding.
There also was once a thread named "Can you drink the water in It's a Small World?" up on the Parks board. In it, the thread originator asked that question in all seriousness because a friend of hers would scoop up water in the ride and drink it whenever they rode. In response I said that there were great health benefits to drinking IASW water as well as a variety of other attraction waters in WDW. A number of the Chalk Circle folks participated as well. I seem to recall that that thread was shut down over worries that mindless people would actually try drinking from the 20k Leagues Lagoon. Hmm....there goes that common theme again.
Following that a Chalk Circle regular started the "Can I eat the dirt in WDW?" thread...also promptly shut down. Then the WDWWDS was born, which is The Walt Disney World Water Drinkers Society. We're now a world wide organization with thousands of members and we're currently lobbying for a seat on the U.N. And thankfully we haven't had the thread shut down. I think maybe people caught on that it's all PRETEND.
WDWWDS and Chalk Circle allows anyone to join. We are equal opportunity water drinkers and WDW trivia freaks. All DISers are welcome. Stop by....we're all relatively normal...sort of.
And no, none of this will be on the quiz....
