Can point schedules change?

I understand that Disney sometimes adjusts the dates within a particular season.i.e. Premier Season dates might vary based upon when Easter and school vacation falls.

But, can the points required for a particular room during a particular season vary? For example, the BWV point schedule currently says that 200 points are required to get a Preferred View 1 BR for one week during Adventure Season.

If I want to make sure that I can ALWAYS get this room during this 'season', am I safe to buy ONLY 200 points?

Thanks!

DVC can adjust the number of points required for a particular type of accommodation during a season. However, they are required to make an offsetting adjustment in another season.

The total number of "point days" for a particular type of accommodation will not change.

Point schedules can change but the total number of points cannot. For example, if a week goes up by ten points, another week will go down by ten. I hope this is helpful.

trying to second guess the number of points you will need is always difficult. When we first looked into DVC, we thought we would go for a week everyother year. Upon further research, we decided we wanted a week EVERY year. After we joined and had a few trips under our belts, we decided we liked longer stays than a week! You can see this is somewhat of an addicting thing!! As I mentioned in an earlier post, we started with 230 and added 150 for a total of 380. I THINK we have enough, but one never knows! I keep telling my DH we should have enough points so we can spend the worst 6 weeks of the winter at OKW! ;)

The answer to your question as to whether they could raise that 200 points to a higher number for that season is yes. If they do so they must lower the points in equal amounts at other seasons so that annual point totals applicable to a unit remain unchanged. This has happened once in the past at OKW when points for off-seasons were raised and for other seasons lowered. They do not do it arbitrarily and the cause would likely be sustained (over several years) excess demand for a particular season. Even when it occurred at OKW the point changes were not much (I think the total was only 1 or 2 points a day change). Nevertheless, safety would suggest that you always buy a little more than what you actually need now for your planned time of year

As previously mentioned, the TOTAL points cannot change. They can only change the way they are allocated.

The points have changed at OKW only once since 1992. I created a small chart showing what that change was, in response on an earlier thread.

Thank you all very much!! I will probably buy an extra 10 or 15 points, to be on the safe side. Based on the current BWV point chart (which I realize will not be identical for BCV) I'm thinking I'll need 360 points. Does the 10 or 15 points sound like a good enough buffer? (I'm guessing yes, based on the fact that the last adjustment only caused a fluctuation of 1 or 2 points) It would be a hassle if every year I was short just a few points, so I'd like to avoid that.

Regarding addiction, tell me about it! I haven't even stayed in a 1 or 2 BR yet and I can't wait to go back. In fact, I've felt a little down since we've been back from our visit last week... does anyone else feel that way?!

I would consider 10 to 15 above the current amount needed to be a very good buffer. Note 360 points will take you a long way -- a week in a 2 Br for even high seasons other than Easter and Christmas and a lot more days for a 1BR. If future shifts occur I would expect to see them either (a) lowering weekend points while rasing weekday--they were actually considering this before but have said nothing for a few years and it is here where current problems exist in that there is much higher weekday demand than weekend, or (b) in the long future, perhaps 20 or more years from now, I have a sense that you are going to see substantial increase in demand for off-season times between November and February simply because all those owners who currently have kids at home and must obey school schedules are going to be mostly kid-free in 20 years or more and able to go during those off-seasons; result then could be rasing the points needed during those seasons while lowering them during current peak seasons
