I am not a mother. I am not a "Kid" person but I have a lot of family and friends who are.

That being said, I love to help them out and make cute gifts for the kids.

I make diaper cakes like this one:

MyDiaperCakeandAlbum.jpg

As you can see, the diapers have a blueish stripe/stripes on the edges and it makes it hard to decorate in anything but purple. I used Walmart Brand diapers called Parents Choice as a few of my friends swear that these are very good.

I am looking at making more of these as I have a few showers coming up. Are there any diapers out there that have no designs on the outside? All white?

Are there any types of diapers that have only a colored waitband and no colour around the legs?

If you have any pics of your diapers, I would be very greatful. I know it's a bit weird but I can't open the diaper bags at the store to look. Any help would be appreciated.

Your cake is adorable! (I especially like the bunny at the top, for obvious reaons!).

My boys are too old for diapers, but I work in a preschool class and still see many of the major brands. Most diapers these days seem to be themed with movies (Cars, Toy Story, Lion King, etc.). One of our little girls brings Disney princess diapers that are mostly pink. It seems like the color schemes are always changing. Most of the major brands do have colors on them but it depends on the theme. I'm thinking the current Huggies might have designs on the waistbands but not on the legs, but I could be wrong. You might need to just buy a few different brands and see which ones you like. You could also mix colors up. Maybe alternate a blue and a yellow in your cake and then decorate with both color ribbons. That would be cute. Keep using those stuffed bunnies. Everyone likes bunnies, right?:)

the only thing colored on the parents choice ones is where the tabs go, also the CVS brand has only a pattern right where the tabs would stick. I believe they are also the SAME thing as the babies r us diaper brand I hope this helps... cute cakes!

er I'm sorry its the rite aid brand.. i just took a pic... uploading now

but the one you see is Parents Choice and it has coloured stripes. Maybe it's different here in Canada?:upsidedow

Walmart had some with a duck on the package. I don't remember much more, but they would be yellow and yellow goes with anything baby.
Try asking the next time your in the stores. The people buying them should be able to tell you.
Love your cake!
Say what about turning them around to the backside? Would that hide the color?

Best of luck.

What brand is that? That would really work...

Also, I can't turn them aound because they have that design all the way around.

those are the riteaid brand.. do you have a rite aid up there? sorry if that's a stupid question!

No but maybe my Mom could bring some ack. What size are they?

I used size 2 in my cake but I think I want to use size 3 on a suggestion from a friend who says tat is the most useful size as they are needed for longer.

those are a 4. I've found this to be true at least for me, that kids were size 4 the longest!! He's been in them now since about 8 months he'll be 2 in late june

I justed checked my DD size 4 and they have green, blue, pink, yellow etc. They are Kirkland brand that I buy at Sam's Club. They hold up great. I bet the size 3's are the same color.

Huggies are mostly white except for the very top.

Whole foods sells diapers that are solid white. They are 9.99 a pack. They hold up well. We recently switched and haven't had a leak yet.

If you do not know that the parent specifically likes or dislikes a certain brand then I would recommend that you always buy one of the major brands (Huggies, Pampers, or Luvs). I personally do not like store brand diapers. I only used Pampers on my daughter and I only used Huggies on my son. Go figure. My youngest just turned 2 and we have never had a pink or blue diaper. Pull ups are colored and have characters on them. It is a safe bet that you will get white diapers if you stick with a major brand and get a small size like 1 or 2. I make a diaper teddy bear for friends who have babies and they never want to take it apart. By the time they do the baby is a few months old so I would use a size 2 diaper. That is a very cute diaper cake.

I normally use Huggies, Huggies Surpreme, Pampers Baby-dri and Pampers Cruisers.

Here in St. Louis Huggies are decorated with a lion king theme and have orange, blue and yellow designs all over.

Huggies Surpreme is multi-colored with Stripes and have blue and green circles.

Pampers baby-dry is blue an green.

Pampers cruisers have purple around the legs and waist.

My son has been in size 5 and 6 for awhile now so these colors reflect those sizes. He will be 2 in June, but we have to buy a bigger diaper cause he pees through the smaller sizes.

Personally I don't think its gonna matter what size diaper you use in your cakes as long as you don't use new borns or premies...they are in those sizes for a very minimal amount of time.

The smaller sizes will give you more diapers in a pack...therefor cheaper. The bigger sizes that you get the less diapers you will get in the pack.

I'm not sure how many diapers you will use in a cake. But think of it this way. When a newborn is in a size 1 a typical parent will change 10-12 diapers in one day. So 50-60 size 1 diapers won't even last a week!!! However now that my son is in a size 4 or 5 we only go through about 5-6 a day.

Designs change often and between sizes. just checked DB size 3 huggies and there is only color on the band and it is simba. Pastel coloring and quite suttle. The size two however had the whole simba on the front and size one had pooh. We only buy huggies and but sometimes pick up supreme and sometimes not so maybe a difference there too.

A suggestion... I have seen the cake done with cloth diapers. All white and while most parents may not diaper with them, cloth diapers are a life saver for spit, or burp clothes. You have to look a little harder for cloth but babies R us for sure has them and sometimes wall-mart.

If you change the way the diaper cake is constructed, it doesn't matter what colour they are...

instead of rolling the diapers, try this:

You'll need a 42 pack of diapers. On the bottom "layer" you'll use 24, 2nd layer 12 and top layer 6.

I cut out some bristol board into strips about as high as the diapers and taped them into a "cake pan". Then, take the diapers and place them in the layer with the "bum part" facing out, so that they're laying on their sides. You kind of move them all around so that the tops of the diapers meet in the middle and then the bum parts are against the "cake form". Then, tighten the bristol board and tie on the outside with ribbon. Remove the bristol board and voila - you have a diaper cake layer. Repeat for the other two layers. I also used a wrapping paper roll to stick down the middle of the layers to keep everything together.

I've made two this way and decorated with whatever colour needed. It does help to have a second pair of hands around though to help out...

I'm sure that's about as clear as mud and unfortunately, I don't have a picture...let me know if you have any questions though...

See if you can find out what brand then intend to use. I know my kids could never use Huggies they would get major rashes from them.
you could also use like recieving blankets, and a bunch of burp towels as well for maybe the top teir.

they look really neat!

I have no frame of reference to answer your actual question (the reason will be obvious in a moment), but you should really look into doing them with cloth diapers, too.

Should we be fortunate enough to have another baby, I'm SO making or getting one of those for the blessingway I'm going to throw for my own dang self (not happy with typical showers, plus I wouldn't want a "shower" for my second, anyway!). :D I'll make it if I have to, but I always want to expand the number of people from whom I could purchase them!

If interested and intrigued, you can see what's out there, in terms of cloth dipes, at places like kellyscloset.com (and google cloth diaper cakes for visuals of what's out there AND the cost).

Good luck!
