If we are staying at AKL, can our friends who are staying off site come to the AK pool one day to swim with us?

The technical answer is no. Just to give you a heads up too, this is a very "hot button" issue on these boards, and this thread may get locked by the moderators just to prevent it from blowing up like they always do.

Nope, I'm pretty sure its to keep the crowd levels in the pools that are already pretty busy under control. They would be totally mobbed if anyone could come and swim.:goodvibes

Aha! I see a challenge a foot...in my overly optimistic view Brian is being a cynic, I believe that this thread can go forth without "blowing" up...surely, we've all had enough of those blow up threads that we can kindly answer this dear person's question! :) There, you've been challenged! Rise to meet it and prove to Brian that good things can happen! :)

That said, yes, technically, no....but what I find is interesting is that at other hotels many of the folks who would say "no" would be accepting..say it's a Holiday Inn and it's a business day NO ONE is at the pool, your parents invite the grandchildren over for a swim (they never want to put you out by staying with you, or they really do like the peace and quiet away from the kids) but they'd like to give you a break and enjoy the pool and grandkids...no one, not even the hotel staff would complain...I think more complain about Disney resorts because there are so many families at each resort (most at full capacity) and more leisure travelers than business...so if EVERYONE invited family/friends it would be unbearable and the poor families who struggled to save $$ for a nice pool visit and park resort stay would have a miserable time...

Being considerate to other paying guests more so than your friends is probably the best way to go....

Although the "technical" answer is No...Ask at the front desk and I am sure it will be fine. Have fun!

oops, sorry about the question, I was just wondering about it and figured eveyone here would know, we won't attempt, thinking about it now, it woudl not be fair for a resort guest to have to share the pool, I was not thinking about it that way, just wanted to show our friends what a great resort it was, thanks for the input.

AKL only has one pool and it's a rather large hotel and somewhat isolated. There are signs at the pools of all the resorts that say the pools are for the exclusive use of the guests of that resort. So your guests might not be welcome at the pool, especially if it's a busy time.

Could you visit your friends at their offsite resort? Or could you all go to the water park together?

when we were going to stay at the Poly my mom wanted to come visit there for a day with us at the pool . (She lives locally..) she had been driving me nuts, so I told her that it wasn't allowed. So she took it upon herself to call the Poly and ask. "No problem" they told her.. ugh.. :confused3

But it's not a Holiday Inn, and it's not a business (work) day.

Just another thought....DVC owners are allowed to pool hop, as long as they are staying on their points. But, there are two resorts they are not allowed to pool hop at, at any time....YC/BC and AKL. The pools at those resorts are off limits to DVCers, unlike all the other pools.
But there is never any harm in asking at the front desk. When you come right down to it...it's not the actual resort guests who ask to bring a few of their family members to the pool with them that violate the system. It's more likely to be those that are at a park all day, get hot and sweaty, and want to cool off so head to the nearest resort (usually a deluxe) and jump in the pool. Those are the true abusers.

That's because Disney has a different interest than those on these boards. Disers want a nice quiet pool at their resort and Disney wants to make thier guests happy. It really wouldn't be very Disney to keep a grandmother from her grandchildren

A Holiday Inn and a Disney resort are not even remotely comparable when it comes to the topic of using the pool at a resort/hotel where one is not registered but friends or relatives are. Thus, the suggestion that people may respond differently in those two situations is hardly surprising.
