Can (or should) I ride Goofy's Barnstormer?

Ok first let me say that I am 30 yrs. old and have never been on a roller coaster - I have always been scared. Part of my fear is because I do tend to become easily car-sick - On our last trip, Star Tours did me in and the 360 degree movies made me nauseated. The other part of the fear is unexplainable - just in my head.

Well I have decided that I need to face my fear head on so I feel that I need to try a coaster. From what I have read, Goofy's Barnstormer is the easiest for wimps like me. Do you agree with this? Do you think I will lose my breakfast? I guess what I am needing is some reassurance because we leave in less than a week and I am starting to get cold feet.

Thanks for your thoughts - Rachel

Go on it, I think you'll be fine! It's not that bad it's quick so even if you don't like it, it will be over quickly. Just think of it this way, Goofy built it so it has to be fun! :)

Good luck and let us know if you rode it! Have a great trip!

My 3 yr old rode it and loved it. If your not a big fan of roller coasters, this is the one to try!

I also don't care for Star Tours because it's too "jerky" and you're watching a video at the same time. Mission: Space does this type of simuliation better -- I think its technology is more up-to-date. But I don't recommend Mission: Space for you because of the nausea. Unlike either of those rides, though, Goofy's Barnstormer is a short, not-as-jerky roller coaster and I think you should try it because it's very short and I don't think it'll make you feel the way Star Tours or even a car ride would. I don't like roller coasters myself and what I dislike is the "dropping" feeling you get on them. That feeling is what most coaster enthusiasts love, so naturally the major coasters at Disney (Space Mountain, Rock-n-Roller Coaster) have big drops. But I can ride and I even enjoy (I love it!) Goofy's Barnstormer because it does not have a big drop and it's just plain fun! I love it, too, because many parks with a "tame" coaster like that only have it in the "kiddie" section, but a grown woman like myself (OK, I'm physically grown but I'm like Peter Pan and always a kid at heart and mind!) can ride Goofy's Barnstormer without feeling like I'm out of place, or that it's only for toddlers.

My family will tell you I'm a big chicken, too, so I think I can relate to what you're concerned about. My DH just talked me into going on Test Track this past December, and only after he convinced me that it does NOT have a big drop like Space Mountain. So I got brave and rode it, and he was right! So now there's another ride I can get on! <hee hee> So, take it from me -- the "scary" aspects of a roller coaster are not present on Goofy's Barnstormer. Not only is it not scary, it is actually fun. Go for it and have a magical time! :cool1:

I suffer from very bad motion sickness and I do fine on Goofy or really any roller coaster.... can't do things that do around and around (like the Tea Cups) and can't handle the virtual rides like Star Tours. I thought I was going to die (literally) when I went on that. I also had a bad experience on Space Ship Earth in Epcot. I even feel sick on the bus rides to the parks.

I was also fine on TOT and RRC in MGM. You should do fine on Goofy. It is quick and painless. A good start for a beginner. My 2 and 3 year olds (at the time) laughed and yelled in excitment when they went on. My little thrill seekers. They loved it so much we went on several times. I am sure you will enjoy it if a 2 year old did.

Good luck and have fun. ;)

You should try it. Even if you don't like it, it is very quick and the ride will be over before you really have a chance to be afraid. Have fun!!!:goodvibes

I get bad car sickness as well and had never been into rollercoasters. I don't mind rides that spin or go fast but was always afraid of drops and the climb upwards, always expecting a huge drop to follow. However, I am huge fan of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad - it was the first WDW rollercoaster I tried (in 2006 mind you - and I was older than 30 then!;) ) I would totally recommend this one - it does not have any big hills (the "drops" incorporate curves which is better for me - I just hate the straight down drop) but it is a bumpy ride. I also rode Goofy's Barnstormer with my son then...it has a small hill that isn't bad. The ride is very, very, short though. I would not recommend waiting for long for it! This last trip, I even went on Spalsh Mountain and Expedition Everest (twice) as well (missed Space Mountain). I say that if I could go on those then anyone can! :thumbsup2 Splash made me a bit queasy - there was a drop in the dark that I didn't expect and the last big drop really caused my stomach to plummet! Expedition Everest was awesome - I found that I was the only one in my party (others were seasoned rollercoaster riders) who wasn't bothered by the backward and upward spiral. The drop looks (and is) pretty big, but I found that it was so smooth and fast that I was fine. The theming in all of these (Splash, EE, BTMRR) is just awesome - something that you really don't have on Goofy's.
Good luck and enjoy your trip!

try some bonine before you ride. Goofy is short, so even if you are scaed it won't last long. If you are ok with that then try Thunder mt...it is not a jorrible scary coaster either, but it is longer than goofy

Big Thunder Mountain was my first roller coaster. It was a lot of fun. That's another wimpier one, like Goofy's. Both are good starter coasters.

Like everyone else I say go ahead and ride it. The ride is short and does not have the steep drops. Go and have some fun.:woohoo:
:cheer2:

I have been on a roller coaster and hate them!!!!!!!!!!
I rode it twice with my son. It was fine ;)
I also rode Big thunder railroad and loved it

if you want to take it slow I would recommend this one. Even if it is a little intense for you it is only a short ride (definitely unser one min) it is a mild coaster but definitely an entertaining one.

I don't especially like roller coasters, but I love this one.
It's my idea of a perfect roller coaster - it's short so it's over before you have a chance to get scared.

Wow, you guys are great. I am going to print off every comment to take with me so I can read them for encouragement on the big day. I am glad some of you mentioned BTMR because that is my next quest once I conquer Goofy' B. So knowing that you also feel that BTMR is doable helps. I think I will draw the line there.

Thanks again! Comments like these mean so much when you are honestly fearful.

I will let you know how it turns out.

I am terrified of coasters. I love small ones...tame ones...Disney ones!!! The first time I ever went on a coaster I was 12 and it was the biggest coaster at the time at Valleyfair in MN. When we went over the drop I thought I was going to fly out of my seat. I think I was crying at the end. So anywho, it took me another 16 years to ever try a coaster again...it was Goofy's Barnstormer (this sounds like such a dramatic story doesn't it?). After that I was like: what else could I try? I went on Big Thunder, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain...these are some of my fave rides at Disney. I too, suffer from motion sickness. I can usually only handle a couple of rides at a time. I have to be the biggest "thrill whimp" there is...so if I can do it, you can do too. Believe in it, you will have fun!

OMG!!! I Love love love this ride!!! I am 39 years old lol. I hate roller coasters but tried this and BTMR and love them both. Very tame. The CM was so amused with me on that thing he looked at me and said "You need to go again!" so I did. (the park was not crowded so I was not taking away from the kids lol) :goodvibes . Don't let it fool you. It is not scary at all.

I am a bit older than you and DD (also an adult) and I rode Goofy's coaster just to enjoy it. It was a blast.

I cannot ride Star Tours either. Something in the synchronization of the movie and the movement gets me sick every time I have tried it. The last time I just closed my eyes and hung on for dear life!

I can ride Mission Space with the spinning side, EE and even RnR but not Star Tours.

You should also do Big Thunder. It has a few spots where you can rest and catch your breath. Also do Splash Mountain, if you never have. It is the best of all of them!

Enjoy enjoy enjoy! :dance3: You can do it! :woohoo:

If I may paraphrase one of my favorite attractions:

"Don't be cheecken, Rachel! No no no no!" pirate:

i can ride star tours no problem.. but the drop on Pirates is TOOO intense for me! I scream and am thrilled when it stops!

Im partly totally fascinated by coasters and mostly terrified!! I would love to do one... but since doing a huge one aged 15 have never done one since..

i wonder if goofys barnstormer would be too intense for me! ?

What do you think?

I am a rollercoaster wimp. Yes, ride the BarnStormer..it is VERY tame..you should not have any problems. We did it and I am an adult - didn't bother me that everyone around us was a child. :cool1: Have fun!! :cool1:
