I wanted to enter DCA for an 8am rope drop, hit some rides and then do Surf's Up breakfast around 10am at PPH with my wife (pregnant) and son (nearly 4).

I haven't been at DLR in 25 yrs so, I don't know the lay of the land. But, looking at maps, it seems like an out of the way hike to get from DCA to PPH & back again as a non-hotel guest. Especially with a child & pregnant mom.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that only hotel guests can use the short cut entrance but I figured I'd ask here anyway.

Does going to DL & using the Tomorrowland monorail make more sense as DL also opens at 8am that day.

I'm certainly not the expert, but I can say that we stayed at PPH last week and took the DCA exit/entrance through the Grand Californian many times and never once were we asked for room keys to prove we were onsite resort guests (we used the DtD entrance on extra magic hour morning to save time).

The monorail would not save you time if you're coming from DCA - it'd be a hike in the opposite direction just to grab it in Tomorrowland.

Thanks.

I should've been more elaborate/specific in regards to the monorail. I meant would it make more sense to go to DL that morning (12/8) for rides, etc as both parks open at 8.

Anyone can exit DCA into the GCH any time...they only check for for room keys of guests ENTERING DCA up till about 11am, then they stop checking and it is open to all.

Cutting through the GCH is indeed the fastest way to the PPH for your breakfast.

I was there first week of September and stayed at GCH from Monday (Labor Day) until Friday. They let anyone through on Tuesday, Wed, and Thurs. On Friday I noticed a sign saying hotel guests only. I think they only restrict access when during busier times.

The ENTRANCE to DCA at the Grand is open only to hotel guests from opening to 11am. You can use it as an exit any time. If your dining time is 10am, I doubt you will be thru before 11, so you are safe. You can use it to exit to the PPH, then use it to reenter after 11am.

It does not make sense to exit DCA to DL, to walk all the way back to catch the monorail to DTD, to walk to PPH. Even walking around the DCA/GCH exit to PPH would be faster. (Out the security gate, into DTD, turn into the Grand by 365 and follow to the PPH.

We used this entrance once after breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen (so maybe 10am or so?) and we were asked for room keys, but we told them we were coming back from breakfast at DLH and they let us through when we showed our receipt. Not sure if that was just a courtesy or if that's standard, but they were really nice about it. We didn't know any better...good to know now that mornings are restricted.

Chances are you'll be OK to get back in with your resize being at 10, but just in case have your dining receipt in hand when you use the entrance to get back in. I've known them to allow non-hotel guests to use the entrance before 11 when they've had proof of dining onsite.
