He normally is very energic and wants to be next to us all day long. Today, he was curling up in a corner. It is possible he dug through trash and ate some orange skin last nite. Each time I went over to pat him, he'd walked away. He wouldn't eat, and had a hard time sleeping (he would dooze off, and as soon as his eyes closed, he kicked his leg and woke up). He wasn't throwing up, didn't have diarrehea, didn't drool, nothing obvious. He went and did his business this morning, and all looked normal too, so I don't think it's the stuff he ate.

My vet is not open today, and I would rather not drag him to wait in the ER when he was looking very weak. Could he be sick without symptoms? Anyone else dealt with something similiar? I'll go to the vet tomorrow as soon as I can get an apointment.....

:(

I guess I am more cautious, I would at least call my vet (someone should either be on-call, or the message would direct you to call the Emergency Vet).

I'm sorry your dog is ill, but I'd hate for something to be REALLY wrong and waiting until tomorrow.

GOOD LUCK!!

I would just keep an eye on him and take him to your vet in the morning. If you call the emergency they will just tell you to bring him him. They won't be able to tell you anything by the symptons you describe.

Just a bump to check how your dog is doing now....hope all is well. Terri

Any time a dog starts doing things out of the ordinary, it can be a sign of illness/pain/etc. I would get him checked out.

I would definitely at least call your vet in the morning, if not take him in. Hope its nothing serious

Just checking in to see how you & your dog are doing.

Please let us know.

I ended up taking him to the ER late last nite. Doctor didn't find anything. His temp is normal, lung / heart rate OK, walk ok, blood test OK. Not even dehydrated. Doctor poked him around and said he's not in pain at all. They gave me some pain killer just in case. Doctor said it probably wasn't disgestive problem since he's not throwing up. Can't be bones splints inside him cause he's not in pain. The only tiny thing is that when she moved his head to the left, he seemed a little uneasy, but she said that's normal in older SHelties. Nothing to worry about.

He's very weak, and still won't respond to me this morning. I don't think he slept well last nite. I gave him some wet food and he ate them, drank some water, pee-d & pooped like normal (but less since he wasn't eating). So I just left him alone.

I don't know what this is and it's really worrying me. And I don't know at what point should I take him back to his vet. Other than sitting there not moving, he seems very normal. But since doctor can't find anything, I just hope maybe he's having a few bad days. We'll see.

:(

But thanks for all your responses & caring. Will keep you posted.

:confused3 I would be careful about giving him painkillers. A) it could mask any pain that might develop and B) if his stomach is off it may make him feel worse.

The facts that he is peeing, pooping, and not throwing up, are good. I think pets sometimes get things that make them "off" for a while just like people do. If things change and he gets "worse", it might be time to take him back in. Do you have a primary care vet that you could touch base about this with? :grouphug:

Pleas get your dog to your vet ASAP. I just spent $900.00 on abdominal surgery for my lab b/c he ate a rubber ducky and a plastic snake. We watched him for 4 days-bowels normal eating normal no throwing up. 5th day he throws up once with the rubber ducky in it. Continues to eat and act just fine. 6th day my dd (used to be a vet tech) talks me into taking him to the vet. Vet examines him and doesn't think anything is stuck as the dog is acting fine and eating, pooping and only threw up once. She wasn't going to do an XRay but decides at the last minute just to be sure. Guess what-his stomach is still filled with the snake and his small intestine looks swollen. She can't do the surgery then-it's close to quittting time. The 2 options were to take him to an emergency clinic for emergency surgery (extremely expensive) or watch him that night and bring him back for surgery in the AM. So we waited-he had the surgery and I was shocked how big the pieces were (he chews, but never at pieces that big) and the vet was schocked that he was acting fine and not throwing up constantly or in pain. 24 more hours he would've ruptured his small intestine and maybe died. In light of the fact that you're dog is acting sick, not eating, I'd get an Xray and be sure. Good luck

He is much better tonight. I got home and he greeted me with barks and jumps. My vet said to wait a bit just to see. He still looked a little tired and quiet. But he ate two whole bowl of wet food and he seemed to love it. And he responded to me once again, and oh, barked at "who let the dog out". I think that's the queue that he's doing ok once again.

I sure hope he's doing better and better tomorrow. I was worried sick.

Thanks for keeping us updated. I am so happy for you, and of course your dog that things seem to be better!
