Can my dog take a people pregnancy test??

I just asked a simple question, to vettechick99 whether she was considering aborting the puppies. I agree that if it could pose health problems to the mommy, than to abort it, but just because it is an inconvenience to her, she should abort them? I didn't respond to start a debate, just a discussion on her problem, but apparently you need to jump on someone's case for a little comment not intended to hurt anyone's feelings.

Maybe you belong back on the debate board.

WOW, talk about a shock when I checked this thread on Monday!

Anyway, thanks to everyone for your thoughts and advice. She hadn't been spayed before me b/c she has no scar. And she never really made it to the Rescue (story here) b/c I took her from another shelter and ended up keeping her instead of dropping her off (however they are taking care of her bills, so she is techincally under their care til the papers are signed).

Anyway, she was malnurished and neither the vet nor the Rescue director wanted to have her undergo surgery while unhealthy and traumatized (she slept for 3 days straight after I got her home).

She is scheduled for spaying in a months time, but I'm going to call the director today and ask what she thinks.

And I know that abortion in general is such a hot topic (but didn't know doggie abortion was!), so I'll reserve my decision for when and IF she is actually pregnant. Didn't mean to start anything on the community board!

Raising a litter of pups is much more than an 'inconvienience'. I can see you have absolutely NO experience with such matters. Would you like to hear some of the horror stories? How about a young female who wound up in a shelter because her SON bred her? 3 of her 6 pups didn't make it because of serious birth defects, and who knows what problems might be down the road for the ones that survived? How about the 9 YO small terrier who had been bred to a lab? She almost died trying to give birth to her large pups, 3 of the 5 didn't make it and she had to have an emergency c-section, very dangerous at her age. How about the inexperienced momma dog who disemboweled half her pups trying to remove the umbilical cords, since she was left alone to labor and give birth? Or the one who delivered her pups only to get up, walk away, and refuse to have anything to do with them? How about the one that had a pup stuck in the birth canal for two days and died because of it, because her owners thought birth was a 'natural' process and there was no need for a vet?
And that is just the difficulties with labor and delivery. If you want to hear about the 'fun' of raising puppies for 16 weeks, let me know.

Seriously, is this really necessary here? I mean come on, why should we all have to hear these tragic stories when you want to make a point to somebody. Next time please err on the side of decency and follow up with a PM instead of subjecting us. OK......

Well I'm going to try and be the final word. It is my thread and don't you forget it!! :teeth:

Thank you all for your thoughts and suggestions. It's clear you all love animals and have their best interests at heart. The world could use A LOT more of ya!

So as Bob Barker would say "Please spay and neuter your pet!":cat:
