Can MS relocate points?

So here is my dilemma- My In-laws are coming with us in April and we are staying 3 nights at Universal and 5 at WDW on our points. There is a possibility that they will not go if they do not receive their Covid vaccine. If that happens we will just stay at WDW for our whole trip.

Here is my question: I have 5 nights at the BC booked with 2021 points. I want to book a back up room for the first 3 nights incase my in laws aren't able to go, but i would need to borrow some points to make it happen. If they end up going then i would cancel the 3 night reservation - so would MS be able to relocate my points and use those borrowed points towards the BC reservation giving me back my 2021 points so i could then bank them?

I looked into just booking a WDW room and for my family of 5 it would be around $1400 and that was staying at the Ft wilderness cabins.

If you borrow for a trip, and later cancel it, you can have those borrowed points reallocated into an upcoming trip, assuming same home resort points, or the trip was made 7 months or less If different,

The only piece would be when you cancel and if holding penalty continues to be waived, Right now it is so canceling less than 31 days out is not a big deal.

However, if it is put back into place, then you’d need to cancel to move the 2021 points back.

They are currently returning borrowed points still, but can end at any time. So, that would be another possibility if temporary rules still in place.

As mentioned they actually are returning borrowed points and if that is still in place that would be done and no swapping required. It could change at any time though.

Otherwise yes they can swap - actually you can do it online yourself by modifying the reservation and rebooking the exact same dates and the system will use borrowed points before current. And as long as the rule of holding is still suspended it can be done right up until the day before you check in. If holding comes back then it would need to be done at least 31 days prior to check in.

I can absolutely confirm they can swap around the points in a case like this. It does have to be done through member services though, it can't be done online.

Yes it can be done online. I have many times which of course is why I posted that.

Actually,, you can swap points around from a canceled trip online through modify feature,

Once you cancel, just go in and modify the trip still booked, but don’t change a thing and the system will pick up any banked and borrowed points and put them in the trip and free up current UY points which can be banked, as long as someone is still in the window.
