Can Marriott Vacation Club people stay at DVC?

My folks have a few weeks of Marriott Vacation Club and we are wait listed in their Olando properties. From what I understand the Marriot program works quite a bit differently than DVC. For one, everything is done in "weeks". It gets more complicated from there. One of the ways to switch your stay from your home resort is to transfer your "week" into interval and than you can stay at any of their offerings. So when I was on their website this morning I noticed 3-4 DVC locations listed. I thought, that would be great. We are staying 5 nights at BCV in April and were going to stay 7 more nights at Marriott Grand Vista and give universal & seaworld a shot. Then I started thinking, I'll just stay DVC the entire time add days to the tickets and still do the Universal thing, but stay at DVC. When we called we were told that DVC no longer participates in Interval.

So my questions is: Is there any way to stay DVC having a Marriott Timeshare or a week transferred into Interval? It sure would be great...

DVC is with RCI now.
Not Interval International.

No, most Marriott resorts trade in II and RCI, where DVC is located. Make sure their resort is II affiliated or if the resort is dual affiliated. Also, check some of the "other" exchange boards like Redweek, Tug, SFX etc.

IF their resort is one that trades with RCI, they they could deposit a week and search for a DVC match. As noted, most Marriott's aren't with RCI and it's only the older ones. And part of those are in Orlando and you can't trade Orlando for DVC in RCI either. A private trade is likely the best approach rather than joining RCI and taking a chance anyway.

After I posted I went on to read the whole RCI II DVC saga over at TUG. What's strange is that II still has DVC listed on their website amost a year after the switch. I guess that says something about II.

Well, there are still DVC reservations in effect until the end of this year through II. I have an exchange coming up into SSR in two weeks via II that was made back last year. That's probably why you still see the DVC resorts listed. I've also seen a few DVC units still pop up in II (cancellations I would imagine).

I'm a member of both RCI and II, and RCI's printed directory I received in the mail has no mention of the DVC resorts.

Mid Oct should be the last of the DVC II deposits, I don't believe any deposits were made from late Nov on. I suspect they'll keep the resorts listed until the 2010 book comes out or even 1 Jan of next year.

This must be a timing thing having to do with the fact that there are still reservations in the systems. I thought no deposits could be made for DVC after the end of the year last year and if that is the case it did not make sense to me why they would continue to list DVC at this late date. But, seeing that there might be cancellations or something that I don't fully understand may be driving the fact that the resorts are still listed. Also, interesting that RCI has not yet listed DVC. Maybe II is still exclusive until all II dates have been fulfilled.

You know this timeshare stuff. It's hard. way hard.. My poor parents. I'm fairly knowledgable about how DVC works so when I tried to have a conversation about MVCI there was so much different that I ended up with my head in my hands. Seemed so restrictive. Have to play their game "with your week". DVC's points seem to make a lot more sense to me.

RCI listed DVC around 1 Jan. IMO it isn't that hard, just different. You would do well to understand how the rest of the timeshare world works to a degree if you plan to do anything else with your family or trading DVC. A little knowledge can certainly go a long way.

Timeshares involve all of those things. Multiple balls in the air at the same time kind of stuff.

It would already appear that my folks have "lost" in their MVCI. As you can imagine some older folks are not used to time sensitive issues, or cancellation penalties etc. So we will help them to enjoy their investment and not lose any more becuase they didn't understand how the program worked.
