Can Magic Bands be Re-programed?

Seems a lot to mess with just to be able to use someone else's magic band. And don't you have to have the ticket linked to an account BEFORE using it to enter a park? I have annual passes so I don't know how individual tickets work all the time.

If you don't, then why would you want her using a ticket that is linked to your account? According to that account, she is you. If anything goes wrong entering another park and they ask her for ID, then she would have the incorrect ID. So it might be adviseable only with a one-day ticket.

You do not need an MDE account to purchase a ticket. Her biometric matches the ticket so nothing would go wrong. MDE is just a storage space.

I was just asking to have Mnrlrd confirm that it would work. There's such a large number of people who ask if their MagicBand can be given to someone else to use and if it's simply based on a ticket biometric, why not give up your storage space... it's quite easy to get another.

You don't need an account to purchase a ticket. do you need one to enter the park? That's what I want to know.

Unfortunately there are concerns other than the ticket biometric because the person you give it to would be using your account. It might work for somebody who was there for the day and was never going to be asked to prove (other than by the park entry biometric) that they were the person assigned to the account.

At a ticket booth, you don't need an account.

For buying a MagicBand, you don't need an account nor do you have to show proof of having a ticket.

After you have completed a vacation, there really isn't anything left in your account. You would just be handing over an empty storage locker.

No. But can you walk into the park with an unlinked ticket?

I know I could not walk into the park with my annual pass until it is assigned to me and activated. Regular tickets are not active until they are used. So the ticket doesn't have to be linked to anybody, you can just enter the park with it and then link it later so you can use the band? Once it is linked, that account and band would still be in YOUR name though. Not your daughter's, although she could get in the park with her biometric. So it would be an issue only if she were asked for ID after linking the ticket to prove she was the ticket holder. Because according to the account, that would be you, not her.

Sorry, Makira, I forgot to answer.

Yes, a ticket does not have to be linked to anything. You can walk up to a FP kiosk and tap that unlinked ticket and the FP system only checks to see if FPs are linked to that ticket. If not, then all the FP selections become available.

Okay, she can get into the park. But after she links the ticket to your account, then MDX believes it is you. If someone were to look up the name of the person using that ticket after it is linked, it would be your name. I'd still like to know what she would do if this was a multi day ticket with hopper, she hopped to another park, the scanner didn't work and they asked for an ID. I may be thinking like an annual passholder, would they ask for an ID on a regular ticket if the biometric is down? Or just wave 'em through?

She would have the hard plastic ticket too, as proof. If the biometric system were down, the CMs would wave guests through. They wouldn't ask for ID.

So, instead of a MagicBand being re-programmed for someone else to use, a guest can use an old MagicBand by:

- EDIT your info in the MDE account to "become" the "new" person (remove credit card info, change name, birthdate, etc.) before giving the MagicBand and MDE info to the "new" person/family
- Link a new ticket to the EDITED MDE that has the MagicBand linked to it
- add a new biometric scan at the Entrance Tapstile because there isn't one associated with the new ticket media whether it's been pre-purchased and linked for FPs or newly purchased at the Park
- use the old MagicBand without having to purchase a new one

I can see where this would save money especially when Character MagicBands are involved. There would be no need to keep purchasing a $25-30 MagicBand if you are basically adding new ticket media to an MDE account and the biometric scan syncs it to that new person.

That would work, yes, I would not recommend It. The other ticket previously linked to the guest who that band belongs to would have to be used up.

Say something goes wrong, the information the CM reads would be very confusing and might prompt them to assume you're doing something wrong and create more hassle for you.

But if the ticket exists and is valid and your biometric matches up, then you can just say it must have been inadvertently linked to the wrong person... someone who doesn't understand tech!;)

It was a CM last year who explained how MDE and park entry wasn't necessary to acquire FPs in the park. The MagicBand really is just a key/link to access info
which is valid within the system Disney created.

Thanks for your help!

I just went into my MDE app and I can change my name, birthdate, take off my Credit Card info, etc. and "become" the next person who I allow to use my MagicBand!

So, first name: Hiro; last name: Hero, can enter the park with new ticket media attached/linked to my MDE/MagicBand and his biometric will be linked to the new ticket.

If Hiro Hero has any problems, the CM will look at the MDE info and see Hiro Hero's info.

So cool! An old MagicBand can be used by a new person!! **See POST #29

Also, ALL MBs linked to that person would now work for the new user. The original user. You can't change ownership of just one band on an account. You would be changing ownership of the entire account.

Yes, and then you can change it back. It is easily manipulated. On other Threads, DISers have reported how they make up fake names just to see what the CMs do when they enter a FP line.

The password can be changed to something easy for the "new" person: magicband/sharemagic/gameon, etc.

Then it can be changed back to another password and the info can be Edited again.

It's just a simple way for others to use MagicBands that are no longer needed without having to buy them for themselves if they will be offsite guests. The "Use a new MDE" Thread for extra FPs details how to set up a new MDE; some people have multiple MDE accounts.
