Can kids use magic band to but lunch

They can, but they will need your PIN code to do so which would also allow them to use it anywhere else in the parks.

I don't think have dinning plan privileges automatically opens up charging privileges. I hope someone else chimes in to confirm but having the pin for dinning plan wouldn't automatically work for room charging as well. You can also have the resort set pins for the kids so they don't have the adult pins. My pin is different then my fiances.

That is correct, as far as I understand it and is how the old KTTW cards (no PIN) used to work. The PIN will allow access to anything that band is authorized for - by default, dining plan credits are available from all bands, but room charging privileges have to be granted on a band-by-band basis.

If I remember correctly, PIN codes must be entered for all Dining Plan purchases TS, QS, and Snack. Entering the PIN code authorizes the charge to the plan allowing for the credit to be redeemed.

Just as a reminder - nothing is actually stored on the physical magicband. The band acts as a link to information in MDE. So no need to worry - If your child's band is linked to your MDE that has the Dining Plan, then he or she will have access to use the dining credits as the credits are pooled together and available to everyone on the reservation.
