Can I walk the Castaway Cay 5K?

4 night 1/29 Dream. I wasn't expecting it, (I did it to try to run off the food I was eating!) but was happy to get it at the finish line, since the rest of my family was moving slow that morning at hadn't even disembarked yet!! :sad2:

About 40 or so folks did it ---good group!

If you are running in the 5k do they let you out first? heard it can take a couple of hours to get off boat and I want to run it?

We didn't do it. But man those medals sure looked nice on the people we passed on that Jan 29th Dream sailing. I might just have to gear up for it for our next cruise. :)

We met in 687 at about 8:30 or so, got bibs, waited for late stragglers, then disembarked as a group around 8:45. There was no line. We walked off, waited for a picture with goofy, then walked as a group over to the start. It was VERY laid back and casual....

HTH!!!

So there's no rhyme or reason to when they do medals/certificates? I'm in either way, just curious.

Not directly related, but found this distance guide at the info booth near the end of the pier:

Perhaps it useful for some.

I have been walking during my lunch hour here in the Northeast(about 2 miles as weather permits). Once it warms up a bit more though, I am hoping to start the Couch to 5k app. My dad and sister have both run several of the Disney Half races the last couple of Januaries. So yeah, pretty excited to do this one "as a family." Hoping for a certificate or possibly a medal. But just really looking forward to the experience !

Thanks for posting this. I've been training on our treadmill since January to get myself ready to do this. I've never been a runner at all, never been able to even run a full mile. So far I'm at about an hour to finish 5k (3.1) miles which I know sucks . I'm hoping to get it to 35-45 minutes. Which is still not great but will be an accomplishment for me.

I too am using the couch to 5k app on my iphone to get my running endurance up. I always hated running and the first week of the program was ROUGH!

Our first Disney Cruise this coming May is my inspiration to give running a try again. I'm looking forward to running the Castaway Cay 5K for the experience, but some souvenirs of the occasion would be great as well. :woohoo:

Great job! I started running in October. I'm not sure what your training has looked like, but I have already shaved 2 minutes per mile off of my beginning time (I'm still slower than molasses to other "runners", but I'm proud of myself). One trick is to do a run/walk interval. When you do that, your body can actually run faster on the run portions than it can if you tried to run the whole time. On the other hand, don't try to go too fast or you will wear your body out!
