Can I vent about DH - he just doesn't get it!

I haven't read all the responses, so this may have already been mentioned....

Maybe he assumes your parents will be coming along on this trip as well, and doesn't want them to - but doesn't know how to tell you that.

at my company and the companies I have worked for in the past, you can get fired for doing what you are describing. i wouldn't do it and i can understand why he's upset

But in other companies it's allowed and even encouraged. Don't assume all employers are like your own.

I just wanted to add that I think this comment above is a HORRIBLE thing to say to someone. Really... REALLY... horrible...and completely unnecessary. :confused3
Actually, from family experience and coworkers, its not. It happens more often than you think. i've known folks who had blinders on and swore up and down it wasn't the case and it ended up being the case. However, its not like I didn't post anythign else other than that.

It's especially hard if someone mentions something like that jokingly, sacrcastically and IMO without tact.
please see my sig and the above comment in this post.

Good choice - not worth it...not at all surprised when I looked over to see who the poster was
Please. I didn't run in post that and run away. see the above posts. As a PP said, they asked 6 other people and they were amazed no one said it yet. I hope that is not the case, but you never know. My stepfather went on "trips" and even made an unexpected detour on the way to my wedding years ago. If you don't wish to acknowledge all the possibilities, then don't be surprised if something happens.

so please, knock the attempt to flame. look at my sig while you are at it.

I agree! We have been at only one company that was weird about it--but all the others have been fine with it or encouraged it. I have been shocked at the people on this thread who have made the OP feel like she was selfish for thinking of doing this. Several of our trips have been taken this way in the early years of our WDW trips. DH would join us in our fun for the evenings. He was glad to have us there with him! I think we have stayed a day or two extra past the convention, as well. I do remember doing a lot of free stuff during these trips--like when they put us in a cabin in FW--I would take the kids biking/exploring (when the nature trail used to be there) during the day. I remember buying cheap tickets to Discovery Island (remember that?). We also bought combo tickets to things besides WDW. I remember driving over to Busch Gardens because I found some kind of deal. We spent a lot of time exploring resort grounds and going to DD. We were watching a home video the other night of me, the kids and my mom when we took one of these unexpected trips for DH's business. Every day we had packed PBJ's and fruit for our lunches. We never do anything like that when we take one of our REAL vacations. But we would have rather done that and gone than to have passed up the opportunity. Those were great times!

I really hope its not the case to , but as someone that travels for work , I hear the " yawn honey , I'm so tired , yeah I'm heading up the room now, say good night to the kids.. love ya kiss kiss" followed by " you guys ready to hit the bars, I'm getting college tail tonight.. " I know all of these peoples wives.. non of the wives think they are with the type of guy who would do it.. it just sucks .. ( and no I'm not saying that the OP hubby is doing this.. I,m just saying that it happens, and I don't know any women who say " yeah my husband is the type of guy that cheats" . And i don't think its fair to flame the poster that pointed out the possibility just because its something that some woman are not strong enough to think about)

OP here - and honestly I can't believe this thread is still at the top of the list...

Just wanted to mention the $3000 number. That's about what we paid for our last 2 vacations (although they were very different), and what I budgeted simply because we do have the rule to have the cash available for the trip. If I over-budget - GREAT - money in my pocket when I get home.

But both of our vacations included a base trip (like to Disney - with all expenses included from gas to tickets to meals), but also a secondary trip that we took on the way home from FL to PA (we drove and liked to break up the trip - one year we did 3 nights @ Myrtle Beach, this past year it was 3 nights in Pigeon Forge, TN). Those secondary trips costs at least a 1/3-1/2 of the base trip - and it's very likely we will just avoid that this year to keep costs down.

So that's where that figure comes from. I know we can do it for a lot less!

I am glad to hear it, because as one of the people who has tagged along on business trips with the family, I would feel bad EVER spending close to our normal vacation budget for a trip where DH would not get to partake in most of the activities. For us, the business trip vacation is a very budget affair and the big bucks are saved for when DH can fully partake of the vacation!
