Can I use gift cards with my Disney Visa, and still get the discount?

Birthday was last week. Shockingly, it appears my family knows my love of Disney, as I've got several Disney gift cards.

Simple question: Can I pay in part with my gift card, and then pay the rest of whatever with my Disney Visa to get the discount? (Thinking specifically of using $70 of gift cards, then using my Disney Visa to get the discount, and cover the rest.) Anyone know if this would work?

Are you talking about using your gift cards while at DLR at the restaurants that give the Visa discount? Or are you thinking of something else? In my experience at restaurants, I would say it works sometimes--depend on the server.

I just attempted this when we ate at Paradise Garden Grill. My bill was just over $160 and I had a gift card with $100. I only got the 10% off on the portion that I paid with the credit card, which was $60 so I only got 6 bucks off instead of 16.

I don't know if this is typical or what is supposed to happen, but I would recommend using the gift cards only at dining that doesn't offer discounts. Or small shopping purchases under $50. We went to Ariels Grotto the next day and I should have just saved it for that.

I had the same experience as jessicadisneygirl. The CM said that we would get the discount on the amount that was paid using the Visa (we opted to pay for the entire purchase using the Visa given that limitation).

Thanks for the replies! Guess I won't do what I was thinking :)

Figured paying with my Disney Visa would make a tour around $90. And then $70 in gift cards could make a WIWF tour seriously affordable :) but if I just get the discount off the $40, then I might just spend the cards on something else.

In the case of the tour it may work. I would call. That's different than purchasing items at a shop or restaurant.
