Can I use child AP to get AP rate?

Just curious...
I'm getting the disney bug again and would like to begin planning an autumn trip. It just occured to me that since a child AP is less than an adult AP, would I be able to reserve a room in my DD's (she's 5) name and buy her the AP instead of me? We would probably be going for less than a week, so I wouldn't plan on purchasing AP's for the whole family.

I do't know what the policy is, but they don't ask who has the AP, and they don't tell you what kind of AP is eligible for the discount, so don't ask, just do it. They have only asked me 1 time to even produce my AP upon check-in, and they didn't even check to see if it was current. The front desk at most resorts really doesn't care all that much in my experience.

I had a thread with the same question here. Basically the conclusion I came to was that the current trend on the difference between the AP rate and some of the code rates would not warrent spending the additional $$$ on even a childs ap vs say a 5 day hopper.

The official policy is that you must be 18 to reserve a room, so since you can't use a child's name to reserve a room, you can't use a child's ap for the discount. As far as whether you should get an AP or not, it needs to be priced carefully. With the way they are handing out discounts now, it may not be necessary.

James, I don't know what official policy you are quoting, but per CRO about 3 hours ago, as long as the person holding the AP is staying in the room, then the discount applies, including a child AP.

Also as far as being 18, that doesn't make a lot of sense either. To take it another step, if the child was between the ages of 10 and 17, why should their ap which cost the same be less valuable then the ap of an individual that is 18 or over.

I think the incorrect assumption we are making is that the person making the reservation or paying for the room has to be the ap holder. That apparently is not hte case. At least today.

I have always been told that the room reservation must be in the name of the person using the discount and 18 was the age limit to reserve the room. Although they do not ask everytime you check in for your AP, they do ask sometimes and I wouldn't want to chance it personally.

I have used my child's AP to get the AP rate. I have called and asked CRO the offical policy and was told on more then one occassion that all that was required was that one person in the room must hold an AP and that a child AP was fine.
