Can I use a small microwave in our room?

When we went in December, we brought a toaster with us. We had toaster struedels or toast in the morning. And we sometimes would toast our bread for our sandwiches at lunch or dinner. We told the front desk that we brought one and they told us that it was okay to use it.

I know this does not help, but this thread has me thinking. I have had more problems with hair dryers having shorts and never a problem with my microwave. I am suprised they let us have hair dryers. Microwaves are a lot safer.

So what rooms have microwaves in WDW?

The hair dryers are built in.
As for the microwaves...the smell from the adjoining room was so bad we couldn't stand it. Luckily the room next to us had already reported the garlic smell and they did remove the microwave. Use the one in the food court or eat cold things for a week.

We are staying at ASMovies in May and I'm thinking about bringing a small microwave for a few cheap meals in the room. I've been reading but haven't seen any mention of anyone using microwaves. Just wondering if there's rules against them or anything.

The official answer is no heating appliances, toasters, coffee pots, microwaves etc in rooms that do not have electrical with safety shut-offs to support them.

You'll get a variety of answers. But that's the official answer.

There is a microwave in the food court you are free to use.

I saw a post just yesterday where someone wrote Disney about using a toaster in their room, and was told it was not allowed. I can't beleive a microwave would be allowed.

Yet I'm sure even knowing that there will be those people who think that means everyone else can't have one, but they can.:sad2:

Yet, others have posted asking Disney and being told yes, they are ok.

So, I don't think there is yet a concrete answer from Disney.

We had the Mousekeeping mgr for our hotel come into our room and our MW was right there on the table in plain sight.

He never said a word about it not being allowed.

I would venture to guess that if it were not, he definitely would have spoken up.

What is so difficult about renting a condo or hotel with a microwave in it? Like I said, Bonnet Creek is right in the middle of Disney World property and provides all the appliances one needs to cook.

I really hope the people who are bringing their appliances from home are also doing the carrying. Bell services job is to carry luggage.

Before she left, she read through all the FAQs on the Disney website and said that the "Disney Moms" panel said it was perfectly fine to bring a microwave and even suggested it.

The Disney Moms panel does say that it's allowed: http://disneyworldforum.disney.go.c...re=search&sort=&page=&qid=32095&pid=45&cid=73

It also sounds like microwaves are available "by request, not guaranteed" at some resorts (maybe Deluxe?) http://disneyworldforum.disney.go.c...e=search&sort=&page=&qid=50352&pid=45&cid=109 and http://disneyworldforum.disney.go.com/questions.aspx?where=search&sort=&page=&qid=9696&pid=45&cid=70

I would have thought it was not allowed either... but perhaps it is. (Does anybody know if they've got someone reviewing the Mom's Panel answers. I've seen a couple that I think seem "not quite right" but then I think they probably know more than I do!

I see that that answer is from one year ago -- many people have checked with Disney since then, and they have changed the rules -- it's a no.

The Disney Moms are just individuals who have been selected to answer questions based on their experience at WDW. They are not Disney employees, nor are they experts. They have given totally wrong answers in the past. I would not go by what they say about Disney rules. I would take their advice about choosing a resort, visiting the theme parks, etc.

So OP...my advice would be to call or email WDW yourself since most of the answers on here are opinions only. The ones who do not agree with it will always tell you no. The ones who will take one no matter what will always tell you yes.

I'm not saying you're wrong (and I suspect you are right), but that is a very poor way for Disney to handle things. Since the Mom's Panel appears on the official Disney Website, it should have accurate information. Opinion is one thing (will my 4yo like Animal Kingdom, which resort should I choose, etc.) However, if there's FACT involved (am I allowed to bring ___? will my room include __?), it should be correct.

They ought to have someone "approving" the answers so they can weed out false information. And if the was correct at the time, but is no longer correct, the answer should be updated or removed. That's the nice thing about web vs. printed materials. You can update them easily. (removing my graphic designer hat now).

Oh geeze, I started a debate! Totally not my intention!!! :rolleyes1

If there's one in the food court that will be good enough for us. We will only need it for a few things and I wasn't sure about taking one. I just thought it was curious it wasn't mentioned as a swap item anywhere since it seems to go along with having a fridge (which we are getting in a swap).

:welcome: to the DIS! :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Basically choose to do what you want. Sounds like some successfully bring one(and the Disney Moms approve)but it might annoy your next door neighbor if you nuke a garlicy dish or burn the values to the ground if you leave it unattended. This is typical of any innocent question here about what Disney allows... Don't sweat it, after a while it is just part of the DIS extended family fun.

The electrical system may be able to support a microwave, George Foreman, or crockpot, but there is no exhaust system in the rooms to handle fumes, and no garbage disposal to handle washing dishes. I for one would not be happy if I came to my room to relax and smelled sausage and onions, garlic toast, or burned popcorn wafting into my room. And I would have no problem complaining to the front desk about it, either. Also, just because they SAY you have to unplug it before you leave the room, doesn't mean that will happen. And if Mousekeeping doesn't unplug it in time, you could burn down the entire building, occupants and all.

(OP this wasn't directed at you, but at those who believe it's OK.) Welcome to the Dis!!

Just curious if anyone unplugs their microwave before the leave the house? This is a serious question. I know my DH always unplugs the toaster at home but never the microwave.

I don't unplug mine because it's built into the wall and has a special outlet. Is that really the point? There are places which accomodate microwaves (like condos). I'm sorry but if one needs to cook in ones hotel room on vacation, one might look at alternate options or save up for a bit longer to rent DVC. I don't care what people do on vacation but I find it bizarre that people are bringing all their kitchen appliances into All Star Sports. Those are tiny hotel rooms and if I were staying there I wouldn't be too happy smelling someone's fish dinner being cooked next door. It's gross.

I have never, ever complained to hotel management about what anyone was doing in a room next to - or close to - mine, but I do have to say that if someone had a microwave in their room and burned popcorn in it (which usually happens with at least a few kernels every single time), I would have a killer migraine that would last for days on end..:( In that case, I would most definitely have to complain and request that I be moved quite some distance from the offending room..

If I wanted to cook while on vacation (and I have in the past), I have always rented a cottage.. In 2001, we stayed in an awesome cottage at the Tropical Palms Fun Resort in Florida - with a full kitchen - and it was great!! Even greater was the fact that I didn't have to worry about offending someone (or making someone ill) in the room next to me with unpleasant food odors..:thumbsup2

In the OP's case, I would either use the microwave in the food court - or rent the small fridge and plan budget meals around refrigerated items..:goodvibes

Well, some of us will do whatever it takes to do Disney as cheaply as possible! That's the only reason I'm bringing breakfast foods and will be packing our lunches. I don't care how small the room is, we won't be there very much!

I agree cooking fish is a bit much though. (Can you even do that in a microwave?) I was just thinking it would be nice to heat up a hot dog or do some microwaveable mac and cheese instead of having sandwiches all the time. A microwave in the food court is perfect for that.

Next trip though, we're going to wait for the free dining and then book. I think that would be totally worth it!:yay:

Well, I don't cook in my bedroom at home, so I don't cook in my bedroom on vacation.

You are my hero! LOL :worship:

And furthermore, please do not fart or smoke or wear really bad perfumes either. Only ones I approve if you have to walk past my door or stand next to me while in line. :rotfl2::rotfl:
