Can I upgrade a Seasonal AP after use?

We are taking a trip to Universal in August. We are going to need two rooms and the least expensive option will be to have both DH and I buy AP's to get the room discount. I was planning on getting one of us Preferred for the other discounts and thinking the other really only needs to be Seasonal. If we get Seasonal but then decide we want to travel during a blackout date in 2022, could we upgrade the pass before it expires?

Good question - I'll be watching for the answer too as I just realized that perhaps I could have one of us with Seasonal and one of us with Preferred for the discounts and save $100 over both of us having Preferred.

I have upgraded a Preferred from 2 parks to 3 between renewals and downgraded back at renewal. The upgrade was the entire price difference between a 2 park and 3 park; it wasn't pro-rated. The downgrade was back to the 2 park price.

Yes, we have done that. DH had a seasonal but then we were going to be there on a day there was a concert at US, so he upgraded to power in the park during our 2nd trip. Like soniam said, no pro-ration, it was about $50 for that upgrade.
