Can I trade in a MYW ticket on a new AP?

I have 5 days left on a MYW ticket (originally was a 10 day ticket with non-expiring and hopping). Can I trade this in on a new AP? If so, any idea what value would be assigned to the old ticket?

Thanks for any help.

I had a MYW 12 day with 2 days left and we were leaving... It wasn't a no-expire, but I did upgrade before leaving that trip to an AP. I'm sure there's some way to do it....

How old is the ticket?

Because if you upgrade, the start date of your AP will be the first day you used the ticket. So if you used it for the first time six months ago, your "new" AP would expire six months from now.

They won't just give you the value "left" on the ticket, a ticket "upgrade" is just that - an upgrade of an existing ticket. Since your ticket is partially used all they can do is give you an AP retroactive to that date (but you would get full credit for the purchase price on the ticket, not just the days left).

Probably wouldn't be worth it.

I believe that if you had first used your ticket within fourteen days, they would give you the full value of the ticket as credit toward the AP and back date your AP to the first day you used your ticket. However in your case, it sounds like you used your ticket on a previous visit. In this case, I think they will only give you the difference in cost between a 5 day ticket and a 10 day ticket as credit. I don't know how the no expiration option is handled. Since the difference in the base price is only $10, it is probably not worth it. They don't back date the AP in this case, it would start the day you activate it.

However the only way to really now is to go to a guest services and ask how much credit they would give you.

Yes, you can trade-in a partially-used MYW ticket toward the purchase of a new AP. You even used the correct term - "trade-in."

"Upgrade" is what you call it when you turn in a MYW pass before the 14-day window passes. In the case of an upgrade, you would get the full purchase price of the original ticket applied to the cost of the new AP, and the new AP would be backdated to the first day you used the MYW ticket.

"Trade-in" is what happens after the 14-day window passes. Trade-ins can only be done with MYW passes that have the no-expiry option. In a trade-in, you would turn in your partially-used MYW ticket and recieve a credit for the part of the ticket that's unused. The credit depends on 1) How much the ticket cost when it was purchased, and 2) How much of the ticket is left unused. I don't know how Disney compuites the value, but suffice ti to say that the value is more favorable to them than to the Guest. In a trade-in, the AP will start on teh day of the trade-in.

If you have a MYW pass that you have not used at all, then you can do an upgrade. The AP will start on the day you do the upgrade.

If you have a MYW pass that you bought from a ticket broker, such as Maple Leaf, Undercover Tourist, or TicketMania, the upgrade or trade-in value of the ticket will be based on what the broker paid DIsney for the ticket, NOT on what you paid the broker for the ticket! Tickets from brokers have substantially less upgrade and trade-in value than a ticket bought directly from Disney.

If you have a ticket without the no-expiry option, you can upgrade any time before the ticket expires. You can even upgrade before you even use part of the ticket. When you use part of the ticket, the 14-day expiration period begins, after which the ticket expires - and once it expires, it has no value and cannot be upgraded or traded in.

Upgrades and trade-ins can ONLY be done at WDW; you must go to any Ticket Sales or Guest Relations window at the 4 theme parks. Upgrades and trade-ins cannot bedone at the Disney Store, online, by phone, or at the resorts - only at the theme parks.

Oh my, Will. You are a little behind in the actual policy. It has changed since what you describe.

..."Upgrade" is what you call it when you turn in a MYW pass before the 14-day window passes. In the case of an upgrade, you would get the full purchase price of the original ticket applied to the cost of the new AP, and the new AP would be backdated to the first day you used the MYW ticket.
It does not have to be done within the 14 day window anymore as long as the MYW ticket has the no expiration option on it.

"Trade-in" is what happens after the 14-day window passes. Trade-ins can only be done with MYW passes that have the no-expiry option. In a trade-in, you would turn in your partially-used MYW ticket and recieve a credit for the part of the ticket that's unused. I don't know how Disney compuites the value, but suffice ti to say that the value is more favorable to them than to the Guest. In a trade-in, the AP will start on teh day of the trade-in.
A vanishing breed. Disney is trying to eliminate as many dollar credit transactions as it can. They want you to upgrade or use the balance of your ticket as is.

If you have a MYW pass that you have not used at all, then you can do an upgrade. The AP will start on the day you do the upgrade.
Correct

If you have a MYW pass that you bought from a ticket broker, such as Maple Leaf, Undercover Tourist, or TicketMania, the upgrade or trade-in value of the ticket will be based on what the broker paid DIsney for the ticket, NOT on what you paid the broker for the ticket! Tickets from brokers have substantially less upgrade and trade-in value than a ticket bought directly from Disney.
Not correct. This used to be the policy with the old Park Hopper/Park Hopper Plus tickets from pre-2005 but it has never been the policy for MYW tickets. When you upgrade a ticket bought from a wholesaler, the Guest Relations CM scans it to get the price, then does some "Disney magic" and elevates the price to the current Disney gate price. You should always be paying the difference between two gate prices when doing any MYW upgrade. Lobby Concierge also has the ability to do this but I've heard too many people say that they don't always so my advice is to always have Guest Relations do an upgrade for you.

The upgrade no longer must be within the 14 day window. NewEnglandDisney is correct in that they will now backdate the AP to the first day you used the MYW ticket even if it was 9 months ago. You will receive full credit for the original value of the MYW ticket when doing this. Another change is that the non expiration tickets can be added to anytime within the 14 day window even if they were completely used up.

Upgrades and trade-ins can ONLY be done at WDW; you must go to any Ticket Sales or Guest Relations window at the 4 theme parks. Upgrades and trade-ins cannot bedone at the Disney Store, online, by phone, or at the resorts - only at the theme parks.
Correct, although Lobby Concierge can also do the transactions of everything except AP/PAP/SPs. But the best advice is to go to Guest Relations.

OK. So it sounds like since my next trip will be at about the one-year anniversary of may last trip (when I used the first five days of my 10 day MYW ticket), it looks like it won't do me any good to trade in the last five days. I had hoped to upgrade to an AP to get the room discount.

Thanks for all the help.
