I hope somebody knows what I'm talking about.....

I use a BRAUN brand cordless curling iron.It uses a butane cartridge ( a round cylinder about the size of the M&M minis tubes)

Can I pack this, or bring it in my carry-on?

I really don't want to be without it for a whole week!

Nope, it can't go either checked or carry-on. Here's the rules, as posted at Federal Aviation Administration :
DO NOT PACK in luggage or carry onboard

Fireworks
Signal flares, sparklers or other explosives

Flammable Liquids or Solids
Fuel, paints, lighter refills, matches

Household items
Drain cleaners and solvents

Pressure containers:
Spray cans, butane fuel, scuba tanks, propane tanks, CO2 cartridges, self-inflating rafts

Weapons:
Firearms, ammunition, gunpowder, mace, tear gas or pepper spray. See Title 49 CFR Parts 100-199 for specific restrictions for 'self-defense sprays'.

Other Hazardous Materials:
Dry ice, gasoline-powered tools, wet-cell batteries, camping equipment with fuel, radioactive materials (except limited quantities), poisons, infectious substances

Beware...
Many common items used everyday in the home or workplace may seem harmless, however, when transported by air, they can be very dangerous. In flight, variations in temperature and pressure can cause items to leak, generate toxic fumes or start a fire.

It's the Law...
You must declare your hazardous materials to the airline, air package carrier, or U.S. Postal Service. Violators of Federal hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR parts 171-180) may be subject to a civil penalty of up to $27,500 for each violation and, in appropriate cases, a criminal penalty of up to $500,000 and/or imprisonment of up to 5 years.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I kind of figured it wasn't allowed, but hey, it can't hurt to ask!:teeth:
Now it's time for me to go shopping for hats!

Why not go shopping for a travel sized electric curling iron instead? That way you will have one to take with you on your next Disney trip.

Head to wallmart - for about $10.00 you can get a nice electric one.

Lets just put it this way.... I have carried one of these on flights to Europe for years. The TSA has opened my suitcase and looked at it. Whatever you call the British agency has seen it (and they were MUCH more thorough then the TSA has ever been!) I have been allowed to carry it.

I did speak with Delta years ago. Basically they said I could have one cartridge and it would be fine. They did say I could not bring the butane cannisters you use for things like camping grills.

I always pack mine along with me in my carry-on, and my understanding has been that you can only bring one cartridge, and they prefer if it is slightly used - less pressure I guess.

HMMM.......

I would really rather have my cordless ( those of you that use one probably understand- those that don't, probably think I'm nutty!) -

Anyone else done it ?

I know it says no butane fuel, but that make me think of stuff for lighters and etc. , where this is specifically made for a curling iron only..........

Butane is butane regardless of what it is made for. The difference for your curling iron is packaging not contents.

If you want a definitive response call your airline.
