In May 2004 we will be traveling with a group that has 3 cabins of people who have never cruised before. To make their voyage more special we would like to have gifts waiting on them when they arrive to their cabins. My question is as follows: Can I make my own gift baskets and have them sent to the ship? I know Shirley does a great job but I would prefer to give these "newbies" something we made ourselves to make it a little more special. Has anyone done this before? Thanks! ::MickeyMo

Ok. I know I am responding to myself but 70-something people have looked at my post and no one has replied! I guess no one has an answer, too bad for me ! :p

Why not call DCL and ask first?

Perhaps DCL may be reserved, since you aren't a business (with a known reputation) and they have to be concerned about things like safety. If you are told no, what stops you from carrying it on yourself?

It can still be a surprise - You can also board with your group, later returning to the terminal and reboard before sailing (with the "basket" stashed in your car or somewhere else you can get to).

I'd ask first.

As a second thought, I'd bet Shirley would let you "contribute" to one of "her" baskets, and charge you less for the service. Ask her, as I believe her to be very accomodating!

I tend to think not, but I agree, you can call DCL and ask.

The reason I think not is that I know Shirley has a special permit to be able to get into the port and deliver the baskets.

She also has to pay a fee to DCL for each basket she delivers.

I'd suggest that you reconsider your idea, and have Shirley make the baskets for you. You can send her some items to include if you have some things you want to have in there.

We had Shirley make a basket for us, and it was WONDERFUL and extremely well priced.

I made my own this year for the 4 children in our group. I put all the items in my rolling "carry on" bag along with the "gift bags" I planned to use. Then, I assembled the gift bags and put them in the the rooms for the kids. Since I knew ahead of time what to put in each bag, the assembly went very quickley.

Making your own gift basket is really ok and as Mary said she made her own and delivered her own - If you have the time and space as I said it isn't a bad idea - now as for Disney delivering the packages for you - I doubt it very serious since they are very conscience of that delivery fee that is charge for everything and anything that is brought accross - their gifts may not have a delivery fee, but I do know it is added in to the charges and they will not do anything to jepordize that income - as for us delivering it, it would not do you any savings since I would still have to charge the delivery fee.
Wish I could help but I do wish you well in it - I feel you can do it and I know your friends will appreciate your efforts to add to their cruise.
Much love
Always
Shirley
