Can I segment existing res without risking losing the rooms I have?

We are taking our extended family in January. My SIL wasn't initially able to go, but is now able to join us for the first two nights. I'd like to add her to the room, but I don't want to pay for the DDP for the whole week for her.

I asked MS this question a while ago when we were starting to figure this out and I was assured that I could segment the ressie without risk of losing it. I didn't do it then, however, as she wasn't 100% committed. Today I called MS to actually do it and I was told that I would have to cancel the existing ressie in order to rebook it with segments. The room is a BLT SV 2 bedroom so it would most definitely be lost to the wait list.

Is this correct or do I need to call back and find a different person who will do it?

Worst case scenario I'll add her to the whole trip and will pay for the extra nights DP, but I'd rather not if I shouldn't have to.

Thanks.

As of a month or so ago, DVC will no longer segment bookings. We're back to the original all-or-nothing rules for the dining plans.

I remember reading on these boards that Disney no longer allows segmenting a reservation for the purposes of splitting and/or different dining plans. Existing reservations were grandfathered in but new ones were not allowed. I haven't paid too much attention to it since I never get the dining plan but I'm sure that someone with more info will chime in.

You might want to try calling MS again. I had a similar situation right after the word came down about no more segmenting for the purposes of different dining plans. In my case, I had 4 nights booked in a 1 bdrm at BWV mid October (for F&W at Epcot) which I booked exactly at the 7 month window. However, about mid Sept. we asked my cousin and his wife, who reside near St. Pete, to join us for our last two days (one night). DH and I were back and forth as to whether we were even going to use DDP for this trip. I called MS and asked since it would be just two of us for the first three nights and four of us for the last night could we get dining w/o affecting our original reservation and only adding the two people for the last night. They did link the original reservation and we did have to "technically" check out and check back in for the last night, however, we didn't even need to go to the front desk to do so......they simply slipped our new room keys (4 of them) under our door on the check out/check in day AND we did get DDP for two of us for the first 3 nights and for four of us on the last night.

Maybe if you are stuck with her DP credits you can add some signature meals to eat up the extra credits. :thumbsup2

Or if you have an annual pass you might want to consider a TIW (tables in wonderland) card and skip the DP this trip. http://allears.net/din/dde.htm You get a 20% discount off TS meals and an meals and drinks at Everything POP at POP Century (that's the only QS place that accepts the TIW card). Plus 20% off any adult beverages including wine, beer and cocktails. Many of the bars at the Disney resorts honor this card and so do restaurants at the Swan and Dolphin. There are a few that do not honor the TIW card, like Yak & Yeti's, Rain Forest Cafe, and T-Rex (all are Landrys Restaurants, you could use their discount card or your AP or DVC card) and Teppan Edo at Japan in the WS, Epcot.

A TIW is purchased at guest relations at DTD or at a WDW park.

We decided last year to stop doing the DDP and stay with TIW. It saves us more money and we eat what we want not what is on the DDP.

Actually there are a few Counter Services that will accept TiW. Generally they're places where there isn't a full Table Service restaurant. All of the AllStars accept TiW. Sassagoula Floatworks at POFQ takes it as do all the AK restaurants (except Yak n Yeti) -- we tend to use it at Flame Tree. :lovestruc

We too find TiW better for us than the DDP.

You forgot one that really hits home (or "home resort") for some of us DVCers... Artist's Pallet at SSR also takes the TIW card.
