Can I say I have the DDP if I don't yet?

Backstory here.

I was making ADRs for an upcoming trip I'm planning in Aug. for Pirates & Princesses and we're already past the 180 day mark so I wanted to get CRT ressies. So I called and got a breakfast slot for the day I wanted to be at P&P. I told the CM I didn't have the DDP yet and she got my CC info and all that jazz. I must've not heard her when she said that this ressie was pre-paid because I was shocked :scared1: to see the charge on my bank statement. So I called WDW dining and asked and got a :snooty: CM who explained to me that all signature dinings are pre-paid. I told her that was weird because I have ressies for Spirit of Aloha and didn't get charged for it. She then asked if I was on the DDP and I said yes. She said that's probably why, but I should've been charged. So I told her I was planning on getting the DDP for my upcoming trip and she explained that the CC would then be credited when I used my DDP for the ressie. Needless to say I ended up (had to) cancelling my ressie :sad1:

So my question is can I call Disney Dining and Say I have the DDP even though I don't have it yet?
Will I get in trouble for this?

No, NOT all Signature Dining is prepaid - just, as you now know, CRT. The dinner shows are different, and never having experienced one I can't tell you when/if you'll be charged.

Yup, even WITH the dining plan, you will still be charged for CRT adn then credited back upon showing or something like that :)

I'm certainly no expert but a couple of things - I was told unequivocally today by WDW staff that you do NOT have to be on the DDP to make reservations. (Perhaps this removes your need to say you have DDP when you don't?????)

Secondly, you cannot add the DDP when you check in; it must be added to your package at least 48 hours before you arrive - so if, in fact, you DO want the DDP, you might want to add this to your reservation sooner rather than later.

Again, I'd emphasize that I'm a total newb to all this - the foregoing just reflects things that I was specifically told earlier today.

I think you misunderstood the post. It isn't about whether you have to be on the DDP to make ADR's. It is about your credit card not being charged if you say you are on the DDP for CRT. Apparently, you are charged either way so it doesn't matter.

When I made my ressie for CRT last year (around October for a December reservation) I was on the DDP and I had to give them a credit card number to use as a security. I was never charged, but I think if you don't show up and don't cancel within the alloted time frame then they charge your card. It sounds like there was a misunderstanding or maybe if they can't verify at the time of the reservation that you have the DDP then they go ahead and charge you, but that doesn't seem right...hhmm. I am no expert either, but it sounds like you should not have been charged.

There's been alot of changes with CRT and making ADR for that place. It's my understanding that when you make ADR for CRT you HAVE to pre-pay. Which dose really suck if your on the DDP...because you'll in turn use the credits to pay for the meal...but in the mean time have to pay intrest on the reservation. Anywho...I think even if your on the meal plan you HAVE to prepay for this place....you use to be able to just put down a card # to hold the reservation with the understanding that if you didn't show you'd still be charged...but now it's pre pay:confused3

YUP :)

I made ADR's last week for CRT and I just checked my CC and I was NOT charged. I told her I was on the DDP and I did give her my number but was not charged.

I was told I would be charged pretty much right away. I used a debit card but didn't think to check if the money's been taken yet.

Darn, this is what I figured and what the CM explained to me. But I see others haven't been charged, so I don't get it. Oh well, guess I'll just have to deal.

Thank you all for your responses.

When I booked CRT dinner, the CM asked if I was on DDP and I said yes - he them proceeded to tell me it was 2TS and all that jazz, and took CC number and everything - however he did say that he wouldn't be charging the CC, just using it for confirmation if you don't turn up.

However, I DID want to pay OOP for the meal (I think TS credits could be better used elsewhere), therefore he changed it around for me so my CC was charged.

So if you are on DDP, you shouldn't get charged - CC is just for confirm. When you said you were planning on getting DDP, the CC was probably charged just in case you didn't end up getting it or something...

CRT is a pre-paid restaurant UNLESS you tell them you are on the dining plan. If you are on the DDP then they will still take a CC for no shows (and charge you $10 per person for not showing up and not canceling in time) but will not charge your CC.

Sounds to me like because the OP wasn't on the DDP when she was making the ADRs, her CC was charged in full for CRT.

I don't know if you can call and make ADRs and say you are on the plan when you aren't. I 'think' you might be able to but I'm not 100% sure.

Usually, what happens is they charge your CC for the ADR (when not on the DDP yet) and then once you are on the DDP, you can call back and they will credit your CC.

Good luck.

CRT, and the dinner shows are pre paid events...UNLESS..you are on the DDP. Then they will still need a credit card to hold the reservation, and if you don't show up or cancel within the cancellation policy, then you will be charged according to the locations policy. As far as calling and saying that you are on the DDP when you are not, you could but what good would that do? You are still going to have to add the DDP or pay for the meal either way. If they do charge your credit card and you do add the DDP, just call dining and they will add the DDP to the reservation and refund the money back to your Credit Card.

Right - Disney shouldn't charge the card for CRT, CA Grill, or the dinner shows when you are on the DDP. They will take the card number - and will charge it if you don't show up or cancel within x time period.

I would hope that if your ressie shows you're on the dining plan, that they wouldn't charge your card normally. Being Canadian, the exchange rate I pay for a purchase is higher than the exchange rate I get for a refund. AND, we pay an extra 2.5% on all purchases, but do not get refunded the same amount. So charging my card and then refunding would end up costing me $$$ when looking at a purchase as large as CRT for my family.

I made ressies for HDD and Fantasmic package ... they have my cc# but won't be using it.

I just wanted to say that YES they can look at your reservation and tell if you've purchased the DDP or not. I called last week to make my ADR but I haven't added the DDP on yet. In my head I'm just thinking DDP...because that's our plan....So when the CM asked me if we were on the plan I just said yes....Then after some looking she came back and said it dose not show the DDP on my reservation and again asked if I was sure I'd purchased the plan. I realized then what I had said...and told her that we were planning on adding the plan but hadn't done so yet...so yes when we go we will have the DDP on our reservation. Of course I wasn't booking any place like CRT or anywhere that you needed to pre-pay so it wasn't a big deal that I hadn't added it yet. Anywho....I just wanted to say that when you do call to make your ADR they can see/tell if your on the DDP or not.

I don't have the DDP booked but I told the CM I would because I am going to be adding it. For now I have a room only reservation. I told her I was on the DDP and I was not charged. If they can tell if you are not on the plan why didn't she charge me?

We have the dining plan and were not charged for CRT (It is not supposed to be charged to you CC if you are using the DDP), If you are paying off the dining plan, then CRT is prepaid. Now with CRT they do take a CC number even if you are on the dining plan, then if you do not show up without canceling at least 48 hours in advance, then they charge your CC if you are on the DDP.
