Can I remain a full "blue card" member if I sell all but 30 points?

Hi,
I have 2 contracts, bought direct from Disney at Boardwalk Villas. One contract is 170 points and was purchased in 1999. I added on 30 points direct from Disney in 2000. Can I sell the 170 point contract and keep JUST the 30 point contract? That would be the only contract I would have. Is that allowed? Would I still have the full DVC benefits, with such a small contract?
Thanks!

Can you please elaborate why? Is this because the 30 points were purchased in 1999. What if the 30 point contract was purchased in 2019? Thanks.

Yes - the membership benefits follow the contract. At the time the 30 point contract was purchased (2000), you only needed to own 25 for full benefits. It wouldn't apply if it had been purchased in 2019 - the minimum increased from 25 to 75 in February 2018.

Thanks for explaining Striker.

Thanks for the further explanation! So, does anyone here have experience with so few points?

What experiences are you looking for?
You've been a member long enough to know where you want to stay, how often you want to stay, what unit type you prefer and how many points are required. I'm guessing you understand banking/borrowing and how the point costs vary across seasons. If you haven't read about One-Time-Use points, now might be a good time to consider them.

When we eventually choose to slim down to only our old, direct 25-point contract, we will likely trade in via RCI and use the small contract to add a night on either end of the trip every couple years.

Just wondered if anyone else on here had a tiny amount of points, I guess, and if they regret it. Yes, I know all the ins and outs. I haven't been able to go to Disney often in the last few years due to health reasons, so my head tells me to scale back my points. But my heart REALLY doesn't want to. REALLY wish I knew at the time to buy 2 100-point contracts, then the decision would be easier to sell one. I know it's strictly a personal decision though, and no one can really help me decide. :) thanks!

Prices at some resorts are at all time highs right now. I don't think it's a bad time to sell at all if you have one of those, especially Beach Club!!! But it's not like you can never go to Disney again if you sell. You could finally live your dream of a pirate room at Caribbean Beach...

Just be aware that it was not possible for you to buy two 100 point contracts when you purchased in 1999. At the time the minimum purchase for any new member was 160 points, and at least one of the initial contracts you purchased had to have 160 points (an additional contract could be sold at the time at or above the 25-point add-on minimum level). That 160 minimum continued until the Great Recession when DVD started selling 100 point, and often even just 50 or 75 point, contracts to new purchasers.

An option you could consider if you do not really want to sell because you may use the points again in the future is to start renting your points, possibly through one of the rental brokers, which could cover your dues and actually provide a small profit.

Yes you are grandfather from date of purchase. If you purchased those 30 points in 2018 when the 50 point minimum was implemented then no. But you purchased those 30 in 2000 so you are grandfather to 2000

Hi - I posted this on a couple of other threads, so I apologize to those of you who've already seen it, but it might help the OP.

I have a 25pt resale Boulder Ridge contract purchased in 2009. I'm EXTREMELY happy with my purchase, and I've never had the desire to add more points. (I know... I'm an anomaly.)

I bank & borrow and buy OTU points to go for approximately a week in a studio every 3 years. Here's my history:

2010 WDW home resort studio
2013 WDW home resort studio (no parks on that visit - bicycle riding, Segway tours, horseback riding, signature dining, etc.)
2016 Aulani - studio
2019 Disneyland VGC 1 bedroom for 2 nights to experience Star Wars Land opening with the ride reservation that came with the room (got SUPER lucky with my 7 month out prediction on mid-June opening)
2021 -??? (with the new borrowing restriction and the ongoing potential of the virus, I have no idea...)

Just a footnote - the OTU points weren't offered when I initially purchased my contract, so I did coordinate one small transfer via the DISboards for the 2010 stay. The 2013 stay was a day or two less than a week (if I'm remembering correctly). I'm also a big international vacationer, so I travel frequently to other destinations. I'm sure that's a significant factor in my happiness with the small contract. I also live in LA, so I visit Disneyland about once every 3 years as well.

Another option, since you are a member still, is to get points transferred from another member to make reservations. The big difference over renting is that once transferred, you control the points, and can make changes etc. May be a good way to get those hard to get or large point reservations.
