Can I put down traveler's checks for resort charging?

We have sworn off the credit cards and we won't even have one when we make our December trip to Disney World. I don't like the idea of carrying tons of cash, though! We get free traveler's checks through our bank.

When I check into the Disney resorts, can I put down, for instance, $1,000 in traveler's checks and use that to charge back to my room using my room key?

If so, do I just get whatever is left when I check out?

If I were to go over the amount I left with them, would I just not be able to charge any more unless I put down some more money?

We've always used a credit card for this before, so I'm not sure how this would work.

I know we couldn't do the express check out, but would there be any other negatives??

i had heard of american express coming out with a traveler's check card - to be used instead of the checks. it is supposed to be much safer too.

you may want to check in to this...

they call it a travel funds card. it is not supposed to be linked to your bank account, so it is more secure than a check card, it is refundable in 24 hours, & is reloadable.

hope this helps!

you should have no problem doing that, I always send cash to add to my ressies before I even arrive! so by the time I get there, I have close to 1000 on account! and if I had not spent as much, I did get the money back.

you will have no problem doing this:D i always put down traveler's cheques too, to pay for my room and to get charging privileges as well. i don't like paying the cc company the extra 2% they charge over the exchange rate to change my canadian dollar, so i bring the traveler's cheques instead. last trip the cm at my resort at check in wasn't sure as she hadn't been asked this before...but she enquired about it and was told no problem:D every few days or so i would stop in to guest services and ask for my bill so far...and this way i was able to sign over more cheques as needed. they refunded my balance in cash when i checked out as i did not use up my credit. hope this helps.

We've always done this too... I never seem to have room on a credit card to use on vacation haha. So we call ahead and book our room and make payments until the trip (making a credit balance to use in the parks)... then we hand over all our cash, travelers cheques and disney bucks to the front desk and they apply it to our room charge to use. We got the cash back of the difference when we checked out. I would assume that if you go over what you've prepaid you would be told upon checkout when you couldn't use express check out. DH and I stop occasionally at the front desk to check our balance and make sure we're still within our pre-paid allowance.

How do you apply a credit to your room before you get there? I would like to do this!

Thanks in advance,
Kathy

Kathy you would just overpay what you owe for your hotel room. For example, when I call to book my room, they send in the mail a bill for one night's room deposit. I make photocopies of this bill (or write down the address and reservation#) and every month or so I mail them some more money. If I've gone over what the room cost, the rest is used as a credit balance to spend. :)

Does that make sense?
