I just joined officially today but am already addicted. I have introduced myself here and have been enjoying other newbie posts. When can I post on the other boards here? Do I have to wait until I reach a certain number and have an avatar?

Post anywhere you want. I think the only restriction is you need 10 posts before you can post a link.
