Can I pay my room balance with a gift card?

Can I pay at the time of check in with a gift card or will it automatically charge the card I used for my deposit before check in?

If you do not do online check in and have a room only reservation, you should be able to use the gift card to check in. Some have said that they were able to get the money returned to their credit card and then use the card for payment. I know that they have tended to charge my balance early the morning of check in.

I know that once, I called and paid all but about $50 of my balance with my gift card a couple days before my check in day. That way, only a small amount was left that went to my credit card that morning of check in.

I never check in online or they take a deposit on my cc.. i pay for my whole trip with giftcards but in my case i have to have it paid off 30 days in advance ( tickets & room)

You can pay the balance if it's a room-only reservation. I called and applied a gift card to my stay so I wouldn't get charged upon arrival.

Things may be changing with online check-in depending on when you are arriving at Disney. Some reservations are being advised that they must check-in online and go directly to their room, avoiding the front desk. You may want to check your MDE app to see if such a notification is being given to you.

Once the WDW system starts the day (05:00ish), it will charge all RO reservations that have an outstanding balance. So if you do not want the balance to be charged to your card, it is best to call in before check-in day and pay it off. Yes, when you arrive you can have them reverse it but sometimes that can be a hassle. We always pay off our room with GCs before check-in and also payoff all room charges during our trip with GC's. Rarely do we have any charges hit our CC

If I can call in advance and have a gc applied then check in on line that would be great.

I go down to the desk the night before check-out to pay with my gift card (before midnight). Many times the balance is 0 or there is a small amount that still goes on the CC. Keep in mind though if you charge anything else with your Magicband account on check-out day, it will go on your CC. ie: We ate a Cape May & then went to Disney Springs. That all went on my CC. I am not sure if they take the GC as a credit to the account in case you don't use it all. It's been a year since I've done this so things may be a little different now & moving forward.

Even before the current on line check in I have had Disney run the card on file to pay for the balance of my room.

If you want to pay with a gift card I would do it in advance.
