Can I pay front desk in advance?

When we stayed at Pop Nov 2012 we were allowed to add our $500 worth of gift cards to our KTTW card at check-in. The CM didn't know how to do it, but she called a supervisor over, and he called it creating a negative balance. We did also put our debit card on our account so that once the gift cards were all used up, it would start charging our debit card. My DH stopped by guest services every morning to get a print out of our charges the day before, and it worked great. We still had over $300 left with 3 days to go, so we started to let the boys spend a little more than we normally would. I would have no problem just paying our charges off daily with the cards if we wouldn't have been able to add them at check-in. I LOVE saving for Disney with gift cards. I don't miss the $25 per pay period that I buy one with that way. Best savings plan EVER if you're saving up for Disney. And I just received my shiny new Target debit card in the mail so I can't wait to start buying them there instead of CVS where I work. No perks buying them at CVS......just easy to pick one up every pay day!!!

if you take perscriptions to Target, after 5 you get another 5% coupon that you can stack and get 10% off! My DD has acne medicine that I refill each month so I get alot. Also, in April, they had double rewards..every script was worth 2!

On the same note, can I put down cash at the front desk for charging privileges (vs a credit/debit card)?

Or, can I use a debit card vs. a credit card?

This is what I didPurchased them with my Target Debit card for the 5% off ..went to AKL with about $600 worth of cards..I was told I couldn't put them on the room until I had charges..so I went down one morning after having a few days of charges and paid it down..the remainder of my bill went on my Disney Visa

That's exactly what I did at BWI. I just waited a couple of days and then applied them towards the room. They never charged my cc anything, only authorized it.

It seems like someone said on another thread that you CAN put down cash..because that can be refunded if not used...but I am not sure about that

Yes, that is correct. Cash is refundable.

The problem with gift cards is that it is natural for people to give the front desk the numbers and then they destroy the cards. They spend less than expected and ask for a refund, but Disney cannot reinstate the cards if you do not have the originals.

To prevent setting themselves up for failure with an angry customer, they do not do it.

Brings to mind a long, angry thread from a woman that paid off an entire trip in gift cards, then had to cancel due to family issues. £he had destroyed the cards and could not believe how ignorant Disney was about reinstating hundreds of dollars on cards she no longer had in her possession. Three phone calls and hours later, three CM's able to reinstate everything.... they had most likely spent hours doing this.

The OP unfortunately nothing but bad things to say about Disney's ineptitude, despite our posts about the amount of work they had done.

Why set oneself up for failure.

Thanks! We are going "plastic free" this trip (well, credit card free). We are trying to maintain no usage of credit cards for a year or so - see how that works! So we are doing a cash/debit card only trip.

I JUST did this last week and it took my total down at least $30. Plus having peace of mind that my trip and at least part of my meals will be paid for before we even get there is really nice. We had to downgrade our trip last year due to layoffs at DH's job. We're overly prepared for this trip :)

Not exactly and answer but we were able to apply a Disney Visa Rewards card to our room at AKL last November. It shows up as a credit.
