Hi -

We will be checking into BWV on Friday ! :cool1:

We've decided to try the DDP this time. I already know that we can not use our Disney Rewards dollars to pay for the dining plan when we check in ... but does anyone know if I can use a Visa gift card to pay for it ?

I have been putting away cash each week for quite a while now so we will have no credit card charges at the end of the trip (in theory at least !) . I'd like to put the cash on Visa gift cards and use those instead of bringing the actual cash with us ... kind of like the new age travellers checks !

Anybody know ?

I had one when we used the DDP in May. I had no problems. It was not to pay for the whole thing but just a part of it. The rest I had paid in cash. you should not have any problems.

Ack! What do you mean we can't use the Disney reward card to pay for the dining plan??? Oh man, that is exactly what I had inteded on doing!

What is the reasoning for this?

That is incorrect. I used my disney rewards card twice now at checkin to pay the balance on my account when checking in. I even used my disney rewards card to pay the balance on my package for the free dining via online with no problem either. I think someone is misinformed.

Maybe they are saying that DVC members buying the dining plan while staying on points can't use the Visa Rewards card to pay for the DP?

Someone know for sure??

Just to clarify what MS told me when I called to add the dining plan to our reservation .....

I was told that I can not use the Disney Reward dollars to pay for the dining plan as a DVC member staying on points at check in. I didn't ask why ... maybe the CM did misinform me. :confused3

I have used my reward dollars to apply to my regular room charges a few times, so I know that is no problem. This is our first time adding the dining so I have no experience with this particular issue yet.

Has anyone done this that can verify for those that may be planning to do so ?

Thanks jcanary - that's what I was hoping to hear about the Visa gift cards ! :thumbsup2

You can use a Disney Rewards Credit Card @ DVC resorts to pay for tix, DP, etc...just not the rewards gift cards that you received as perc for usage. Said rewards gift cards can be used @ "regular" walt disney resorts though. Note: I see that this is an exact contradiction to what the previous poster reports:confused3 ).

Guest Services told me last week (in addition to the above) that:

1) You may use Disney Dollars @ DVC resorts to pay for charges, including the DP.

2) You cannot use the "gift" cards (that are being sold on disneyshopping & disney store) YET @ DVC resorts & many other places throughout the parks. Supposedly, they are working on this & by year end you'll be able to.

3) At this point the "gift" cards work @ different dining & gift locations @ WDW but, you cannot use them to purchase tix @ the gates or DTD.

Appears as though disney dollars are still the currency of choice.

Don't forget good, old-fashioned travelers checks, they're happy to accept them @ WDW & the desk will convert them to cash if you desire for CS, etc. each day.

Okay, so I have $500 in Rewards dollars that I have earned by using my Disney Visa. Those Reward Dollars are put onto my Rewards card that I have used at Restaurants, kiosks, food carts, etc. throughout WDW. Can I use that Rewards Card (not a gift card or a special perk, but dollars I have earned by using my visa) to pay for the DP?

Does anyone have first hand experience?

I think you can. What I tried to use in February is the gift card you are sent when you sign up for the Disney Visa and was told the resorts do not accept this it can only be used in the Disney store or the World of Disney in DTD.

You sure can. We had enough reward dollars on a reward card to pay for our whole DDP for 9 days back in May.

Great news!!! This was the reason I paid for DVC on my Disney Visa and have been paying my mortgage every month on the Visa. I figure I should have close to $600 Reward Dollars to use and I want to use it to pay off the Dining Plan.

Thanks to all! :thumbsup2

Who is your mortgage company?? I would love to pay my mortgage on my Disney Visa. Is that possible?? I would pay it right off, but all those reward points...... :yay:

I just got notice that my Mortgage was sold to Chase. I have the Disney Visa with Chase....

Thanks all !

Sounds like I was given misinformation by MS !

I will now pay for our DDP with both our reward dollars and a Visa gift card ! :thumbsup2

I would love to do that. My mortgage company won't let me pay on a credit card. But on a better note I was going to buy my car with cash. I bought the car on my disney visa. what a great move.

In May I had a good amount of Disney Dollars to apply to my account at check in. I wanted to pay for the DP with all Disney Dollars and was told that I was not able to do so. For some reason they HAD to charge my account and credit card at the time of check in for atleast $1.00 to activate the DP. Therefore I asked them to charge my Amex $1.00 and used Disney Dollars to pay the rest. I would imagine they would let you use Rewards Dollars if you went this route.

Have a wonderful trip.

I think you mis-read the OP's statement. He/She paid for DVC using the Disney Visa, and is paying monthly installments on the Visa rather than taking a loan for the DVC payments.

No, I did pay for DVC with my Disney Visa, but I PAID IT OFF ON DAY ONE. No financing DVC for me!!! I am actually paying my monthly rent on my Visa.

With our last move, we sold our house and moved into Navy housing. I am so used to paying the "mortgage". Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up.

Either way, it adds up to a ton of points. Especially after that 300 pt. DVC purchase  .

Good for you. Anyone in the military should get some special treatment.
they wouldn't allow us to pay our 150 pt & 120 pt addon on the Disney Visa, just the down payment. i probably should have argued. I'm sure they would have caved. The dealership wasn't going to let me pay off the car on the visa, but I told them that is the only way I would buy it. They eventually caved after I left the building. Does anyone know how lenient the Disney Visa people are. We pay our bill in full every month(no finance charge). How likely are they to renew my card? after all they're not making a dime on me and I'm getting reward dollars out the yin-yan.
