Can I move points around after booking?

We currently have a vacation for 2010 booked, but still have some points left over for our current UY. I don't want to lose them, but we're a little short of points to make another full trip.

Is it possible to move points out of our 2010 booking into an earlier vacation and borrow from 2011 to replace the 2010 points?

I know my question is probably a bit confusing, but hopefully some of the DVC experts will be able to help me out.

I believe you may be able to pull that one off. First you would have to borrow the amount of points to solidify your 2010 reservation and then swap the borrowed points with current UY points. MS should be able to do that.....

You may be taking a risk by doing this. Last time I tried, I was told that I had to cancel the prior reservation and immediately rebook it. I was informed by the CM that I might lose my ressie by doing this. I did it anyway and was OK, but apparently sometimes it does not.

I'm not willing to do that as both my ressies would require the $95 fee to be paid. I guess I'll just have to call MS and see what my options are.

Which hotels are your reservations at?

You will not be able to do it if your current vacation is booked on reservation points (i.e reservations at non DVC resorts). Once you book at at non-DVC resort the points convert to reservation points and can not be converted back to vacation points. (I'm assuming this is what your vacation is since you have a $95 fee).

I have been able to move points around if I was booked at a DVC resort. We had a situation once that we ahad used current use year points and borrowed points for a extended family vacation. When some family memebrs dropped out I was able to move the points around so that our reservation used all the borrowed points and freed up the current use year points so we could bank them.

We had already booked a DCL vacation and have now booked a short break at DLP - both of these require the $95 fee since they are not DVC properties.

MS confirmed that I couldn't move points out of our DCL booking because they were 2010 points and would have to stay in my 2010 UY. At least we managed to use the majority of our leftover points though for a weekend away to DLP.
