I'm sure I already know the answer to this, but I bid in haste, and now I'm not really willing to pay my max bid. right now I'm the high bidder with one day left on the auction. is it possible to lower my max bid to just above where i am, or am i basically stuck?

TIA!

I'm not a super-experienced eBay-er, but I believe you can go back and withdraw your bid. I've used this proxy bidding some and quite often do not get to the max amount I put in. With the proxy bidding, eBay just increments your bid each time someone outbids you, until your max amount is reached. That's not known until someone outbids your max amount.

Unless there is a lot of activity on this item, it's not likely you will hit your max amount. How much longer does this auction have?

i was the 5th bidder. so there's a chance i will get booted before the auction ends (1 day, 3 hours). And I don't mind paying for the item, I just think I'm paying too much in the end.

I wont be able to watch it either b/c I'm going out of town and won't have access. i guess I'll just leave it and if I win, then I get my item. I'll be more careful (read: patient!) next time!

I withdrew my bid once. I was new and had no idea what a "dutch bid" was. I entered the maximum I was willing to pay, and my bid started right at my maximum.:scared1:

There were no consequences to the withdrawal. No bad marks on my record or anything. I simply entered a lower bid, and ended up winning the item. Good luck.

I'd recommend doing what Faithinkarma did -- withdraw your high proxy bid and then re-bid on the item at a lower price. Thanks, FIK. I didn't know what withdrawing would do. Ebay makes it sound like a black mark is entered against you forever if you withdraw a bid. Anyway, I'm usually too cheap to bid too high! :earseek:

You can withdraw the bid. When it asks you to give a reson for withdrawing it, just select "entered wrong amount"

where do i go to withdraw the bid? i dont see a link...

thanks!

There should be a place on the auction listing that says 'how does bidding work' click on that and it will give you a list of topics. Click on bid retractions - it will explain the whole process and have a link to the official form to fill out.

I know they really discourage it - I have done it just once. I'm not sure you can even do it in the last 12 hours of an auction.

Good Luck

You might want to read the ebay pages about it, however. I'm not going to claim it's a mortal sin, more along lines of 'white lie' but it is against Ebay regs to withdraw a bid for reasons other than a genuine mistake. It does go on your feedback record and could be held against you in future auctions, or, if it happens more than once or suspiciously, even grounds for having your account dropped by ebay.

I second what AZ posted.. you can try putting in a bid retraction... I did it once as I bid by accident....it doesn't affect your EBay account (as far as I know) and they usually are understanding when you say, I didn't mean to put a bid of $2500.00 in, I meant $25.00 :teeth:
