We must have reserved ME when we booked our room for our trip next month, because yesterday we got the luggage tags in the mail. We are still 5 weeks out, so i thought they came a little early.

anyways, we have since decided to rent a minivan since we have to go to port canaveral the next morning, then we are going to KSC, then back to wdw, and there are 6 of us.

Can we put the luggage tags on the bags and have them delivered to the resort while we go get the van and drive ourselves in?? If the tags are on, will they automatically deliver them to the resort, or do we have to check in, then get on the bus for them to be delivered? it would be easier to just get the van and drive in, then have the bags show up later that night.

No one really wants to answer that. You can do one of two things. Cancel the DME and take your luggage with you or let DME carry your luggage for you. The second alternative your luggage is out of your hands until it is received at its destination. Obviously I know the answer but it is up to you to decide what you want to do.

I wouldn't mind hearing your comments about your luggage question when you return from your vacation.

No you can not just send your luggage through DME, this is from the Disney website:

Q. Can I book a "luggage-only" transfer?

A. No. To utilize Disney's Magical Express Service, you must participate in both the motor coach transportation and the luggage transfer services.

Okay, I'll bite...to be fair, there have been people who have put their yellow tags on their checked luggage, and then rented a car at the airport. Their bags have gotten to their rooms just fine.
Now, having said that, you are not supposed to do this....it is stated in all the official DME info. The policy could be changed at any time....they could stop taking luggage to the resort if the owner has not checked in at the DME desk upon arrival and gotten on the bus. However......most of us don't see that happening..just too labor intensive. But, be forewarned....it is the stated policy not to transfer luggage if you are not on the bus.

Why doesn't one adult go rent the van and the others get on the bus? If you had just planned on going straight to the resort the person in the van can just drive and whoever gets there first can get in line to check in and all meet up in the lobby. That way you get the van and don't have to handle the luggage either. Best of both worlds.
